Mission and Objectives
Empower youth and rural communities in Vrancea through integrated digital education and environmental sustainability, bridging the digital divide while addressing climate urgency in one of Romania's most underserved regions.
Core Objectives
Digital Literacy & Skills: Deliver internationally recognized certifications (Cisco NetAcad, Code.org), introduce AI literacy and robotics (Marty the Robot) to primary/secondary students, and build 21st-century competencies for youth NEETs in rural Vrancea.
Environmental Stewardship: Connect students to BGCI and Learning for Nature networks, document and protect local biodiversity (Subcarpații de Curbură, Siret Valley), and create tangible conservation projects with measurable impact.
Youth Civic Engagement: Foster active citizenship through Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps, build leadership and advocacy skills rooted in local context, and position youth as agents of rural transformation.
Rural Community Development: Extend quality education access to isolated settlements via mobile workshops, train local facilitators to sustain programs long-term, and establish Grupul Verde as a Regional Hub for Educational Resources & Development for Rural Youth NEETs.
Strategic Value: Rare integration of digital + environmental + civic frameworks in a single learning ecosystem.
Main Projects / Activities
PILLAR 1: DIGITAL EDUCATION
Grupul Verde delivers Cisco NetAcad programs as accredited networking and cybersecurity certification courses for high school and adult learners in Vrancea, led by certified instructor Marian Dumitru. Through Code.org and AI literacy initiatives, we provide foundational and advanced programming education for students aged 8–18 across rural communities, ensuring digital fluency from primary school onwards.
Marty the Robot robotics workshops introduce computational thinking and engineering concepts through hands-on experience with physical robots in schools and community centers. The TechWomen Empowerment Hub, funded by Fondation Orange (Contract 2024-MD-INT-050), strengthens digital skills and entrepreneurship for young women across multiple implementation cycles. CODE Kids Adjud, supported by Progress Foundation, brings foundational coding to primary students in Adjud and surrounding villages.
PILLAR 2: ENVIRONMENT & BIODIVERSITY
Through our BGCI membership and Green Guardians initiative, we partner with Botanic Gardens Conservation International to document and protect local biodiversity in Vrancea's unique ecosystems: the Subcarpații de Curbură mountains and Siret River valley. Learning for Nature programs empower students to conduct environmental monitoring and species documentation linked to global biodiversity networks.
The GreenCode for Fairer Futures subgrant (WECF/Feminist Climate Action Fund, €5,000, NDICI CHALLENGE/2024/455-010) funds climate and gender-responsive education initiatives that integrate environmental justice into youth learning.
PILLAR 3: YOUTH & CIVIC ACTIVISM
Grupul Verde implements Erasmus+ KA152-YOU mobility projects, enabling youth exchange and civic engagement across Europe. Our "Transformative Youth in Action" initiative (Anna Lindh Foundation, Cycle 3, ID 17145) partners with BRAVO Bosnia to build youth activism and intercultural dialogue across Southeast Europe. We facilitate European Solidarity Corps placements for young people seeking meaningful service opportunities, and we promote DiscoverEU and international mobility programs to expand youth cultural exchange.
PILLAR 4: RURAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Mobile Educational Workshops extend quality learning to isolated communes throughout Vrancea County, accompanied by systematic training of local facilitators to ensure program sustainability. Our strategic vision centers on establishing a Centru de Resurse Educaționale și Dezvoltare (Educational Resource and Development Hub) that positions Grupul Verde as a regional reference for supporting rural youth NEETs.
ACTIVE GRANT & PARTNERSHIP PIPELINES
Grupul Verde pursues Grand Challenges Canada's "Safe Digital Minds" initiative (R-GCC-2603-98965), addressing digital safety and mental health in youth populations. We submitted a comprehensive application to Coca-Cola HBC's "Magia de sub capac" program focused on community engagement and environmental responsibility. The OMV Petrom "Azi. Împreună" Edition II program showcases our EcoCode Vrancea project (submitted 21 May 2026), integrating ecological coding with environmental awareness.
Our UNESCO King Hamad Prize for ICT in Education nomination (ID 407, confirmed 25 May 2026) recognizes innovative digital education practices at national level. The SENSE Foundation's "Roots & Routes — Vrancea" initiative is under active review with decisions expected by 31 July 2026. An EU DG COMM Media Literacy Grant application (RO48) ranked 33rd on the reserve list; we filed administrative redress to strengthen our competitive position for future cycles.
Strategic submissions to Horizon Europe and LDT4SSC programs position Grupul Verde for large-scale digital transformation and sustainable skills development funding.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Asociația Grupul Verde – Contribution to Anna Lindh Foundation Network in Romania
How Grupul Verde Contributes to ALF: Grupul Verde mobilizes young people in rural Romania to engage in cross-border dialogue with international partners (BRAVO Bosnia) through "Transformative Youth in Action" (Cycle 3, ID 17145), addressing shared challenges around digital inclusion, civic participation, and environmental justice. Our Cisco NetAcad, Code.org, and AI literacy programs strengthen young Romanians' capacity to participate in global conversations and digital spaces—core to intercultural understanding and cultural exchange. Through BGCI and Learning for Nature partnerships, we connect rural communities to international conservation networks, building shared values across borders around climate action and environmental stewardship.
As a regional hub in underserved Vrancea, Grupul Verde amplifies the perspectives and needs of rural youth who are often excluded from international dialogue platforms, ensuring their voices shape ALF conversations. Our ANC-certified trainers and Cisco-accredited instructors deliver ALF-aligned workshops on digital rights, media literacy, and civic engagement in Romanian communities, building capacity at grassroots level.
Grupul Verde serves as a local implementer and bridge organization—translating ALF initiatives into Romanian context while ensuring measurable impact in rural areas. We actively seek EU funding through Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, and ESF to co-finance ALF projects and expand reach across Southeast Europe, positioning ourselves as a sustainable partner for ALF's mission.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Grupul Verde seeks ALF membership because our mission—bridging the digital divide while building youth agency in rural Romania—is fundamentally rooted in intercultural dialogue and cross-border solidarity, which are at the heart of ALF's vision.
Rural Vrancea remains isolated from international conversations about digital rights, media literacy, and civic participation. By joining ALF, we gain access to a global network of practitioners, policymakers, and activists who share our commitment to amplifying marginalized voices and building intercultural understanding. This connection is essential to positioning rural Romanian youth not as passive recipients of programs, but as active agents in shaping dialogue around digital transformation, environmental justice, and social cohesion.
Our "Transformative Youth in Action" partnership with BRAVO Bosnia demonstrates our readiness for cross-border collaboration. Joining ALF accelerates and expands this model, enabling us to connect rural Southeast European youth to broader conversations about shared challenges: the digital divide, cultural polarization, and climate anxiety. ALF's frameworks for media literacy and civic engagement directly complement our Cisco NetAcad, Code.org, and AI literacy work, allowing us to embed digital rights and intercultural competencies into every training we deliver.
ALF membership strengthens our capacity to compete for co-financing opportunities, legitimizes our work at regional and EU levels, and provides essential resources and mentoring as we work toward establishing a Regional Hub for Educational Resources and Development. Most importantly, it signals our commitment to the values Grupul Verde embodies: inclusion, dialogue, and the belief that youth from the most underserved communities deserve a seat at the table in shaping Europe's future.
