Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) North Macedonia is an independent, non-profit civil society organization established in 1999 and based in Skopje, North Macedonia. JHR works at the intersection of human rights, media development, environmental protection, gender equality, youth engagement, and sustainable development. The organization promotes democratic values, freedom of expression, media literacy, social inclusion, and intercultural dialogue through education, advocacy, research, public awareness campaigns, and community-based initiatives.
Over the past two decades, JHR has implemented numerous local, national, and international projects in cooperation with public institutions, municipalities, schools, universities, media outlets, civil society organizations, and international partners. The organization is particularly active in promoting environmental justice, menstrual health and hygiene, children's rights, gender-responsive policies, peacebuilding, and citizen participation in decision-making processes.

Mission and Objectives
Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) North Macedonia is a non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to promoting human rights, freedom of expression, media literacy, social inclusion, environmental justice, gender equality, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development. Through journalism, education, advocacy, and community engagement, JHR works to strengthen democratic values, empower vulnerable groups, combat discrimination and hate speech, and foster dialogue and understanding among diverse communities. The organization actively supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on youth, women, marginalized communities, and environmental sustainability
Main Projects / Activities
JHR implements a wide range of local, national, and regional initiatives, including:
Human rights and media literacy education for youth and citizens.
Promotion of freedom of expression and ethical journalism.
Environmental journalism and environmental justice initiatives.
Gender equality and women's empowerment programs.
Menstrual health and hygiene awareness campaigns, including the social enterprise "Budget Mama."
Community projects focused on water, sanitation, public health, and climate change.
Child protection initiatives, including the "Najdime.org.mk" early warning platform for missing children.
Capacity building for journalists, civil society organizations, and local authorities.
Regional cooperation projects addressing peacebuilding, social cohesion, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development in the Western Balkans.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
JHR can contribute to the ALF Network by promoting intercultural dialogue through media, education, youth engagement, and community-based initiatives. We can provide expertise in human rights, journalism, media literacy, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and civic participation. Through our extensive network of journalists, educators, local organizations, and public institutions, we can support joint projects, awareness campaigns, capacity-building activities, research, and regional cooperation initiatives across North Macedonia and the wider Mediterranean region.
