Kulturrummet is a grassroots cultural non-profit association based in Helsingborg, Sweden.
We curate, produce, and manage art, design, and cultural programs that promote multidisciplinary exchanges and address social and environmental challenges through inclusive and innovative cultural activities.
Our work celebrates and highlights the voices of artists and cultural organisers of colour in Sweden and beyond.
Mission and Objectives
Driven by collaboration, Kulturrummet facilitates interdisciplinary exchanges to address pressing social and environmental challenges. Through art, design, and cultural programming, we design and host inclusive spaces for dialogue and action, bringing people together around shared concerns.
With a deep commitment to social justice, Kulturrummet builds bridges between local communities and artistic and cultural practices, amplifying diverse voices.
We curate and produce festivals, exhibitions, public events, and creative workshops while acting as a local network to support and engage artists and cultural practitioners in Helsingborg and beyond. We offer platforms for shared growth and long-term impact through learning processes and sustainable actions.
Rooted in Helsingborg, Kulturrummet collaborates locally with regional, national, and global networks in the arts, culture, and design sectors, linking Helsingborg to broader geographies.
1) Nurturing Local Voices: We support the development of artistic practices and career opportunities for local artists and creatives, with a focus on queer, BIPOC, and immigrant communities in Helsingborg. By offering mentorship, creative spaces, and platforms for visibility, we amplify underrepresented voices and foster creative ecosystems that celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
2) Bridging Art and Climate Action: We address climate change, sustainability, and ecological challenges through the lens of arts and culture. Acting as mediators between scientists, activists, and local communities, we create participatory spaces for dialogue and co-creation. Together, we transform complex environmental issues into cultural experiences that inspire collective action and drive solutions for a sustainable future.
3) Advocating for Democracy and Solidarity: We create cultural platforms that champion democracy, freedom of expression, and solidarity by amplifying marginalized voices and dismantling barriers to participation. Through art, dialogue, and collaborative initiatives, we strive to break social isolation, foster meaningful connections, and challenge systemic inequities.
4) Elevating Youth Voices for Meaningful Change: We provide opportunities for youth to engage in cultural programming and exchanges, addressing challenges such as social isolation, segregation, and digital dependency. We encourage young people to build meaningful relationships, explore diverse perspectives, and contribute to resilient and inclusive communities by promoting environments for creativity, collaboration, and connection.
