“Our Reality – Your Responsibility” report is historic for children’s rights in Sweden, as it is the first time in the convention's 60-year history that the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) has received a supplementary report created entirely by children. Children were not mentioned once in the committee's previous recommendations to Sweden.
The report gathers the voices and experiences of children across Sweden who shared, with honesty and courage, how racism affects their daily lives.
Our reality – Your responsibility is a supplementary report submitted to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in the autumn of 2025 ahead of the review of Sweden in November 2025.
It contains stories from children in Sweden about exposure to racism, and their experiences of it. The report also contains the children’s suggestions for what questions the committee can ask the government during the review and suggestions for recommendations to give to the government.
The report is a collaboration between Save the Children Sweden and Save the Children Youth Sweden, where 74 children aged 9–17 have been involved and shared their experiences of racism. Eight of these children have then selected, analysed and compiled the material into a report.
