General Information

Africans Arise conducts non-profit activities to empower and uplift African communities in Skåne and Sweden. It aims to foster connections and engagements between the African community and the wider Swedish society, promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion without discrimination.

Mission and Objectives

1. Community Building: We cultivate networks where African communities and the wider society connect authentically, access mutual support, and build collective power. Our spaces enable members to share lived experiences, organize around shared interests, and strengthen their agency as changemakers within Swedish and Nordic society.

2. Cultural Exchange: We celebrate and amplify African artistic expression—music, visual art, cuisine, tradition—as both preservation and bridge-building. By creating platforms for cultural visibility, we shift narratives, challenge stereotypes, and help the wider society understand African contributions as integral to Nordic identity.

3. Economic Empowerment: We equip African entrepreneurs and professionals with strategic mentorship, market access, and career pathways. Our initiatives remove barriers to entrepreneurship and leadership, enabling economic self-determination within our communities.

4. Advocacy & Social Justice: We address Afrophobia, anti-Black racism, and systemic exclusion by partnering with institutions and organizations to identify and dismantle discriminatory practices. Our work shifts systems toward genuine equity and accountability.
5. Youth Empowerment & Future Generations: We invest in young Afro-Swedes, through mentorship, skills development, and platforms for civic engagement. By nurturing their voice and agency now, we're building the next generation of changemakers in the Nordics.

Main Projects / Activities

Africans Arise Fireside Chat Series: Direct dialogue between decision-makers and the Black-African community, creating accountability and shifting policy conversations to center community priorities and lived expertise.

Empowerment Forum for Women of Color: We build leadership capacity among women of color through peer learning on entrepreneurship, career insights, strategic confidence, and navigating opportunity—creating visible role models and dismantling barriers to advancement.

Africans Arise Podcast: We amplify untold stories and perspectives from communities, to shape public discourse on culture, identity, and society.

Ystad Summit Session: We bring grassroots and civil society perspectives into public conversations on democracy and sustainability, ensuring decision-makers hear directly from communities most affected by policy choices.

Mentorship Programme for Afro-Swedish Youth: We support young leaders through mentorship focused on cultural identity, academic excellence, and entrepreneurial development—building the pipeline of changemakers equipped to thrive in Swedish and Nordic spaces.
