Afrilanthropy was created in 2017 as a meeting of minds among a number of professionals active across various African countries, seeking new ways to support African innovation. It grew into a organization of around 40 volunteers, including 9 country advisors resident or semi resident in multiple African countries. With a budget of around 70,000 euro, mostly coming from foundations and from private donation, the organization has been able to advise and coach social entrepreneurs, connect them with funding opportunities , as well as launch an innovative solidarity app which enables local residents to connect and provide concrete help to refugees in Europe. ur partner include the Andree Losch Foundation, Oeuvres de Secours de la Grand Duchesse, Cartier Women Initiative and Africa Fine Coffee Association
Mission and Objectives
Afrilanthropy is an international solidarity platform that harnesses the power of homegrown, grassroots social enterprises as drivers of long term change and development. Rather than importing ideas to Africa, or perpetuating working models and practices that overlook the real pioneers and changemakers, we work with African ideas and African initiated projects. Our end goal is to deliver results by advising them and connecting them to venture philanthropy, small foundations and corporate donors, who want to make a difference. We also manage programs on behalf of our partners and donors to support vulnerable communities in times of great need both in Africa and in Europe. In Luxembourg we have launched Riding t
Main Projects / Activities
Main projects include - Women for Women, a business incubation program run entirely by women professionals for women enterpreneurs in Africa - Riding the Rainbow, solidarity app promoting circular economy and social integration of refugees - Punctual assistance to social business in North and Sub-Saharian Africa
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We can play as an active contributor to the network, notably by sharing the experience and know how acquired with Riding the Rainbow project in support to refugees, which has created a paradigm shift in leveraging technology to enable people to help directly without intermediation . We can also led our knowledge and experience in North Africa to all those who are operating in that region and develop joint programs. We would love to share our women for women approach to entrepreneurship and expand it to other part of the world
