Al7awy is an Arabic name that means both "the container" and "the magician." It perfectly represents what we do—holding different ideas together while helping people find the magic and potential within themselves. We actually started as a small project back in February 2017 and later grew into a registered company in November 2019. Our team is simply a group of artists and mentors who are passionate about working with young people. We use art as a natural tool to help youth build their life skills and connect with others. We truly believe that by looking at things from new angles and starting from within, we can help everyone grow and create a better reality.
Mission and Objectives
Al7awy Mission
Our mission is to use art as the main tool to help children and young people discover who they are and build their life skills. We work on creating spaces where they feel safe to express themselves through their bodies and souls. We want to help them turn their energy and talents into a positive force that creates real change in their lives and their communities, while we all grow together through shared experiences.
Al7awy Objectives
- Using different art techniques to help people understand their feelings and find the hidden strengths in their personalities.
- Providing creative spaces where young people can try out new things and learn more about themselves and the world.
- Empowering participants to use art as a language to speak up about their personal and community issues.
- Making cultural exchange happen naturally by bringing youth together through teamwork and creative projects.
Main Projects / Activities
You-topia Project (Scenario-based Learning)
In this program, we use simulation scenarios—like the "Island scenario"—to make learning a hands-on experience. Participants actually live through the process of building a new society from scratch. Along the way, they deal with daily challenges that push them to reach a consensus, work as a real team, and find creative ways to manage the resources they have.
Performing Arts Workshops (ETA)
These workshops follow the "Education Through Art" approach, where we focus on theater, storytelling, and movement. It is more than just a training; it is a creative journey where children and youth explore their own thoughts. Every series ends with a live performance that the participants create and perform themselves to share their own stories and views with an audience.
Youth Capacity Building Programs
We run intensive workshops designed to help children and youth build self-confidence and life skills. We rely on interactive games and creative activities to make the learning process feel natural and engaging. Our main focus is helping young people communicate better, trust their own abilities, and understand the real value of teamwork in a safe, supportive space.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We really want to bring the Al7awy spirit to the network by doing things in a more personal and creative way. One of the things we do best is making meetings feel more human. We can help during national meetings by leading movement activities and creative exercises that help members actually connect with each other as people, instead of just talking as organizations.
We are also very happy to open our "toolbox" and share how we build our simulation scenarios and "learning by doing" tools. Our hope is to see other members using these creative methods in their own work with young people. Another way we can contribute is by using art as a bridge; we can take the network’s big ideas or goals and turn them into simple, powerful forms like storytelling or theater that really speak to people.
Finally, we offer a space for everyone to experiment. We are always trying out new ways to reach youth, and we are more than ready to share what we have learned from our experiences—both the successes and the mistakes—with everyone in the network.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
For us at Al7awy, being in the network is much more than just having a membership; it has become a real support system for our work. Our project, You-topia, was supported by the ALF, and that experience specifically showed us the true value of this community. When we were trying to reach more youth, the network was there to back us up and helped us connect with the right people at the right time.
We want to continue because we need to keep our eyes open to the new opportunities and resources that the network provides. Also, staying here helps us keep our finger on the pulse of our field. Seeing how other organizations think and the challenges they face helps us develop our own tools and makes our work with youth much more relevant and effective. Simply put, we want to stay because the network has become a backbone for our growth and a bridge to the community we serve.
