General Information

Our organization Cyclades Unified was formed in July 2024. We were invited as guest speakers in the CPF Forum for the Islands on 18/1/-20/1024, on Santorini island, with other 40 organizations. As part of the Erasmus +project Islanders, ManyIslands, OneCommunity, we have made several online meetings, collaborating with the Dive in Action ngo and the Sikinos Organisation, on environmental sustainability. We have a network of partners and supporters https://cycladesunified.wordpress.com/network-supporters/ from Greece and other countries. We are 5 members from different fields, https://cycladesunified.wordpress.com/who-we-are/ and we plan to work with more in our programs. Our budgetary resources will be covered by support programs offered by foundations, donations, social cooperative enterprises, and sponsorships. We also intend to work with volunteers and promote our programs, so they render a double-fold impact, equipping them with all the necessary tools.

Mission and Objectives

Cyclades Unified is a non-profit organization, in Greece. It supports actions about the Cycladic Islands in the Aegean Sea, using storytelling as the tool of recording Cycladic memory. Its aim is to highlight cultural heritage, tradition and practices leading to a sustainable future for the young. Its mission serves awareness through the expanding of networks related to environmental protection, as the connecting link with young, islanders and tourists to achieve sustainability for the years to come. The projects that are to be implemented within 2025 are defined by the collaborations with non-profit organisations and stakehoders, with training programs to improve teacher comprehension of environmental citizenship and secure the safeguarding of cultural heritage. Volunteerism is our main priority in formulating strong bonds with the coomunitites in the small Cycladic Islands, with the view to motivate young in creating new opportunities regarding the future of their islands. The educational workshops "Storytelling Waves" with European partners and organisations from the U.S and Australia share the idea of literacy on the small islands where libraries and bookstores don't exist. Sustainable solutions and environmental workshops with young groups with five islands will be the starting point to take action. https://cycladesunified.wordpress.com/about/

Main Projects / Activities

Our project "Storytelling Waves" that is under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organisation has sailed to 5 Cycladic Islands and reached 200 students, offering for free the book "A Young Kimolistas" written by our founder Ms. Agatha Rodi, with the purpose to share common cultural characteristics with Kimolos, exchange information, empower young students with the tools that will transform them to active islanders. We collaborate on projects related to environmental awareness with stakeholders from Cycladic Islands forming a solid group of young nature carers.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

I have been an educator for 25 years and represent two non-profit organizations as ambassadors in Greece. The invaluable insight I have acquired, in conjunction with my duties as project manager and Communication Manager for Kimolistes ngo, over the last 5 years, has allowed me to share common goals with the Network in my country. Working on the island of Kimolos on the two Erasmus + project Islanders Many Islands, One Community, gave me the opportunity to explore with the young from Milos and Kimolos the origin of issues that put islanders' lives in uncertainty regarding the future. Embracing community, culture, and nature is the answer to constant informative festivals and projects to disseminate the significance of keeping the Cyclades alive.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Being a member of the ALF Network is the best path in order to get in touch with other change-makers, be inspired and motivated to realise projects that bring an air of change around the communities. The feedback I have already got by attending your seminars conducted by other civil societies provided me with the strategies to follow and has contributed to bringing more ideas spreading a new Network of experienced lecturers with practical insight. I am sure I will be able to give back to your members substantial info and innovative ideas that will help them in fostering changes in their schemes, bringing the best result.
