We are a civil non-profit with staff of 8 people and an advisory board of 5 members. With a yearly budget of 280,750 € we provide production and mobility grants to artists and curators, as well as a number of opportunities for networking, collaboration, and increased visibility of artists' work (exhibitions, talks, curatorial exchanges, and more). Our partners include the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art, the Greek National Gallery and the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Mission and Objectives
Our mission is to help Greek artists create, grow professionally, and gain visibility. We create an ecosystem of opportunity based on trust and rooted in a safe and supportive environment.
●We aim provide material and immaterial conditions for artists to work on their projects, to grow their artistic practice and to develop as professionals.
●We create conditions for collaboration and cross-fertilization between artists, curators, and artistic disciplines, and set an example of transparent and model operations to support the arts.
●We improve visibility of the work and the professional needs of artists and promote best practices in the field.
Main Projects / Activities
●Provision of grants for mid-career artists (Greek/based in Greece)
●Provision of curatorial residencies in Athens for international curators
●Curatorial exchanges with other countries
●Visibility programme at the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art (exhibitions, artists' and curators' talks, workshops, and more)
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We are seeking to strengthen collaborations within and outside Greece so we can improve conditions for all artists and better serve our mission to provide them with opportunities and increased visibility. We have supported over 400 contemporary Greek artists and can link them to various opportunities as well as with each other. Over the years we have built significant expertise in contemporary art in Greece and we are well aware of issues in the sector. We are seeking to both share this expertise as well as build alliances and learn from each other.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We are interested in strengthening our network abroad, especially in Europe/the Mediterranean, in order to pursue together common projects and goals. We also have an expanding curatorial exchange program and would like to connect with other organizations working in the visual arts sector.
