The Association was established one year ago. We have 143 members. For the time being we have one employee and a pool of volunteers that organizes and implements our projects. The association provides services free of charge, both to our members and to the general public, and it is funded through donations. We organize creative and educational workshops intended for people living with dementia and their family caregivers. We have been awarded an Erasmus plus project dedicated to job shadowing and adult education.
Mission and Objectives
Raising public awareness of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Enhancing preventative measures and optimizing the well-being of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Developing and implementing projects related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Organizing creative workshops as a form of non-pharmacological therapy for dementia. Delivering social and psycho-social support services to dementia patients and their family caregivers.
Main Projects / Activities
We organize creative workshops led by established artists, using art as a way to express emotions, memories, and experiences while helping maintain cognitive abilities, emotional well-being, and self-esteem.
We also host informal Sunday family gatherings that foster inclusion for people with dementia and provide connection and support for their caregivers.
Our educational workshops and lectures are led by healthcare workers and offer reliable information, practical guidance, and emotional support to informal caregivers and the public in general.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Our goal is to reduce stigma and raise public awareness about dementia, contributing to the development of dementia-friendly communities. We are committed to sharing our good practices with similar initiatives across Croatia while building strong networks that connect people living with dementia and their families to essential information, services, and support.
We aim to strengthen the capacity of informal caregivers by providing direct psychological support and educational resources tailored to their needs. At the same time, we would like to encourage policymakers and other stakeholders to improve the availability of services, resources, and opportunities for people living with dementia and their family caregivers.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We would like to join the ALF Network to become part of a collaborative community committed to improving the lives of people living with dementia and their families. We believe that sharing knowledge, exchanging good practices, and learning from organizations across Europe will strengthen our work and help us develop more effective, innovative, and person-centred approaches to dementia care and support.
As a relatively new initiative in Croatia, we are eager to connect with experienced organizations, participate in joint learning opportunities, and contribute our own experiences in raising awareness, supporting family caregivers, and promoting dementia-friendly communities. We also hope that membership in the network will foster partnerships for future projects and advocacy efforts, ultimately improving the availability and quality of services for people living with dementia and their families in Croatia.
