General Information

Association for Development of Arab-Bulgarian Initiatives and Collaboration ARABIS was founded on 07.03.2010 by a group of university current, ex-students and lecturers, part of the “Arabic and Semitic Studies” Department in Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. ARABIS is an independent, non-party, non-religious and non-governmental private oriented organization, registered under the Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities. At present the association consists of 30 members, 10 specialized teams and 2 regulator organs. ARABIS is an organization of Bulgarian citizens of Bulgarian or Arabic origin, united by the mission of establishing fellowship between Bulgaria and the Arabic world countries, and in particular between the Bulgarian and the Arabic societies, accomplishing this goal by mutual understanding and activating the exchange in the following areas: civil society, education, culture, business and tourism. ARABIS in its very essence is a project, which combines the innovation with the long lasting traditions of the Bulgarian academy.

Mission and Objectives

ARABIS is an independent, non-governmental, non-party, non-religious and non-profit organization. Its main objectives and tasks are: - increasing the mutual awareness and extension of the bilateral contacts between the Bulgarian and Arabic societies - developing techniques and good practices for making contacts in the education, culture and business areas - creating an objective perspective of the Arabic world in Bulgaria and of Bulgaria in the Arabic world in the spirit of intercultural understanding, cooperation and collaboration.

Main Projects / Activities

Bringing together Bulgaria and the Arabic countries, especially the Bulgarian and Arabic societies, and activating the connections between them in the spirit of tolerance and mutual understanding. Consolidating and protecting the interests of the Bulgarian citizens, who use Arabic language and specific knowledge of the Arabic world in their professional environment; transforming this into a think-tank, using know-how and expertise to help institutions in preparing certain politics in the above mentioned areas. Raising the student activities, engagement, creativity, mobility, knowledge and competence; stimulating the interdisciplinary dialog between students from different majors in Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, as well as other universities in Bulgaria and on international level. Promoting the values of pluralism and multiculturalism among the Bulgarian citizens after the good practices in the Western liberal democracies and the ideas for establishing a civil society of full value. Studying and analyzing the results from all the fulfilled project initiatives.
