Rijeka danas is a Croatian non-governmental organisation led by a President and supported by a project-based team of coordinators, educators, media professionals, external experts and volunteers. The organisation cooperates with more than 60 primary and secondary schools across Croatia, public health institutions, local and regional authorities, civil society organisations and international partners from Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia. Its annual resources vary according to awarded national and EU projects and are mainly based on public grants, EU funds and project partnerships. Activities include educational programmes, youth work, community initiatives, media and awareness campaigns, workshops, cultural and theatre-based activities, exchanges and international cooperation. Key partners include schools, public institutions, NGOs and organisations involved in Erasmus+, ESF+ and nationally funded programmes.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of Rijeka danas is to strengthen inclusive, informed and connected communities by linking education, media, culture and civic participation. Our objectives are to empower young people and vulnerable groups, promote intercultural dialogue, tolerance, active citizenship and social inclusion, improve media literacy and access to reliable information, develop innovative educational and cultural activities, and strengthen cooperation between civil society organisations, schools, public institutions and international partners. We aim to create sustainable partnerships and opportunities for exchange, mutual learning and cooperation across Croatia, Europe and the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Main Projects / Activities
Rijeka danas develops and implements Erasmus+ and EU-funded projects, educational programmes for children and young people, community-based social inclusion activities and media initiatives. Our programmes combine education, culture, theatre, media and participatory methods and address topics such as healthy lifestyles, prevention, social inclusion, active citizenship and youth empowerment. We organise workshops, educational events, public campaigns, conferences and community activities and cooperate closely with schools, public health institutions, municipalities and civil society organisations. Through the Rijeka danas media platform, we also support public information, awareness raising and community engagement. The organisation develops international partnerships and exchanges with NGOs across Europe and the Western Balkans, with a strong focus on intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding and exchange of good practices.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Rijeka danas can contribute to the ALF Network through its extensive cooperation with schools, civil society organisations, public institutions and local communities across Croatia. We can support the dissemination of Network activities through our media platform, connect ALF members with educational institutions and NGOs, and participate in the development of joint projects, youth initiatives, cultural and educational activities. Our experience in Erasmus+, EU-funded and national projects enables us to contribute to project development, partnership building and implementation. We can also strengthen regional cooperation by connecting Croatian organisations with our partners in Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia, promoting intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding and exchange of good practices.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We would like to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network to expand our international cooperation and build sustainable partnerships with organisations sharing similar values and objectives. The Network offers an important platform for developing new initiatives in youth work, education, culture, media, social inclusion and intercultural dialogue. We are particularly interested in exchanging good practices, participating in joint Euro-Mediterranean projects and creating new opportunities for young people and local communities in Croatia. Membership would also enable Rijeka danas to contribute its experience, contacts and communication capacities while learning from organisations across the Euro-Mediterranean region. We see the ALF Network as an opportunity to transform existing cooperation into long-term international partnerships and meaningful joint projects.
