Be an Ally is a Cyprus-based organisation working to advance equality and inclusion, with a strong focus on empowering women and girls and supporting organisations in creating fairer and more inclusive learning and working environments. Through programmes, educational initiatives, and strategic collaborations, we act as allies for sustainable social progress. The Girls in STEAM Academy operates as the organisation’s flagship initiative, focusing on empowering girls and young women in STEAM fields.
Mission and Objectives
Be an Ally actively contributes to the advancement of equality and inclusion by implementing empowerment programmes, educational initiatives, and strategic partnerships with organisations. Our aim is to help shape fairer and more inclusive educational, professional, and social environments. We envision a society where every woman, girl, and person facing social or professional inequalities has equal opportunities to develop their potential and actively participate in public and professional life, with more individuals and organisations acting as allies in advancing equality and inclusion.
Main Projects / Activities
Be an Ally operates across three interconnected pillars: empowerment programmes, organisational support, and public dialogue.
Our flagship initiative, Girls in STEAM Academy, empowers adolescent girls and young women in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) through experiential learning, mentoring, role model engagement, and skills development. The programme works to challenge gender stereotypes, strengthen self-confidence, and create pathways to education and employment in traditionally underrepresented sectors.
Beyond STEAM, we design and implement educational programmes addressing:
- gender equality
- media literacy
- digital inclusion
- leadership and civic participation
- professional empowerment
We also collaborate with schools, companies, and institutions to deliver workshops, training sessions, and awareness initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive learning and working environments.
In addition, through initiatives such as the “Θκυο Λόγια” campaign, the first digital campaign for Gender Equality in Cyprus where we create spaces for public dialogue around equality, amplifying voices and encouraging community engagement on social issues in Cyprus.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Be an Ally can contribute to the ALF Network in Cyprus by mobilising and engaging young people, particularly girls and young women, in dialogue initiatives connected to equality, participation, and social inclusion. We also provide expertise in gender equality, empowerment methodologies, and inclusive education, and host workshops, youth labs, and public dialogue events that align with ALF’s priorities. We could connect schools, youth communities, and local organisations to the Network’s activities and contribute to Mediterranean exchanges on youth participation, digital citizenship, and combating stereotypes. We can act as a bridge between youth communities, civil society actors, and institutional stakeholders in Cyprus.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We want to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network because its mission to promote intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and inclusive societies strongly aligns with Be an Ally’s vision. As an organisation working on equality, empowerment, and civic participation, we see great value in connecting with Mediterranean civil society actors who are addressing similar challenges around youth engagement, social cohesion, and inclusive development. Joining the ALF Network would allow us to strengthen cross-border collaboration, exchange good practices, amplify youth voices in regional dialogue and co-develop initiatives addressing stereotypes and inequalities. We believe that equality and inclusion are essential foundations for peaceful and cohesive societies, and we are eager to contribute to and learn from the diverse experiences within the ALF community.
