General Information

Psychosocial team for support to persons under international protection include 18 persons, psychologists, social workers, pedagogue, SGBV officer and cultural mediators. Core team includes executive director, project manager, finance manager, HR officer and procurement staff. Governing Board numbers 3 members.
Partner with UNHCR for over 20 years in the program of psychosocial support to persons under international protection with the average budget of 1.200.000 per year for the last three years.

Mission and Objectives

BHWI Foundation is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization, which through social, economic and educational programs strengthens vulnerable categories for active participation in BiH society in which it will have equal role in public and physical everyday life.• Providing psychosocial support to vulnerable categories of BH citizens and foreigners
• Encouraging and supporting economic, social and educational programs for women in order to eliminate all forms of violence
• Advocating for a better legal and political framework that will enable women in BH society to play a more equal role in public and private everyday life
• Encouraging cooperation between the civil, governmental and business sectors by developing joint programs
• Encouraging interregional cooperation between women's networks, organizations and groups through joint programs
• Promoting the role of women in strengthening cooperation between different ethnic groups in BiH as a way to create long-term peace and stability in BiH and the region;
• Strengthening the role of women and other vulnerable categories in public and private everyday life through:
- Lobbying and advocacy projects
- Research projects
- Economic and other forms of empowerment projects
- Educational projects
- Psychosocial and health projects
• Organizing workshops, seminars and conferences
• Publishing books and other publications related to the basic goal of the Foundation
• Support for projects aimed at integration and reintegration of foreigners and citizens of BH
• Engaging in other activities that are in line with the mission of the foundation

Main Projects / Activities

Provision of psycho-social support to refugees and asylum seekers residing in reception centers and in private accommodation throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina with the aim of their easier integration into BH society. Activities encompass wide range including local language learning, access to health care and education, occupational and work therapy, skilled training for employment, and community building activities.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

To bring own experience and good practice of work with persons under international protection of different cultural and traditional backgrounds, to make visible the obstacles and limitations on their path towards integration into BH society and present them in their own light as persons who bring bring great skills and values to BH society and present them as an asset rather than burden to the society . Number of BHWI personnel are naturalized migrants who were given the chance to be heard and to present own qualities and values and they experience stimulates others in their way to integration and fulfillment of human rights.
