The Brussels School of Governance is a leading hub for interdisciplinary teaching and innovative research. We strive to understand and help address the major societal challenges of our time — from migration and diversity to digital and green transitions, climate change, the evolving global economy, as well as geopolitical competition.
Mission and Objectives
Through our internationally accredited university programmes, we equip students with the analytical tools and critical thinking skills needed to engage with these complex issues and to thrive in academic, professional, and civic life. We bring together students, researchers, policymakers, and societal stakeholders who are committed to understanding Europe in a rapidly changing world.
Main Projects / Activities
Established in 1987, Vesalius College* offers students a truly unique university-level educational experience, focusing on Bachelor and Master programmes. The Institute for European Studies proposes several postgraduate programmes as well as PhD supervisions and has a long-standing reputation in research on the international role and standing of the EU.
By means of this alliance, the BSoG has now an international staff of more than 200 people. It pursues its research and teaching in four research centres, each of which focuses on a key societal dynamic and challenge. The Centre for Digitalisation, Democracy and Innovation (CD2I) analyses the ongoing digital transformation of society. The Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy (C3E) operates at the crossroads of today’s turbulent transitions. The Centre for Migration, Diversity and Justice (C-MDJ) focuses on the multilevel governance and politics of immigration, justice and home affairs, immigrant integration, diversity and equality. The Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the key contemporary security and diplomatic challenges of the 21st century – and their impact on Europe.
The in-house expertise of the BSoG is further strengthened by a close collaboration with an international network of partners, such as the United Nations University (UNU-CRIS), NOVA University of Lisbon, University of Warwick, and the EUtopia European university network.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
The Brussels School of Governance is well positioned to contribute to the work of the Anna Lindh Foundation in Belgium. The school bridges academia, policy, and civil society. Located in Brussels and embedded in a highly international environment, the School brings together students, researchers, and practitioners from over 60 nationalities and maintains strong links with European institutions and global policy networks.
Through its research centres and programmes in diplomacy, security, migration, envinronment and digital governance, the School can provide analytical expertise and evidence-based insights on intercultural dialogue, inclusion, and Euro-Mediterranean relations. In particular, it can contribute to policy debates, capacity-building initiatives, and training activities aimed at young professionals and civil society actors, thereby reinforcing the ALF’s objective of fostering inclusive societies and cross-cultural understanding.
In the Belgian context, the School can act as a hub for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration. By hosting events, supporting joint research, and facilitating dialogue between scholars and practitioners, the Brussels School of Governance can strengthen the intellectual and policy dimension of the ALF’s activities and enhance Belgium’s contribution to Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We wish to join the Anna Lindh Foundation to strengthen our engagement with Euro-Mediterranean dialogue and contribute to its mission of fostering inclusive, intercultural societies. As a policy-oriented academic institution, the Brussels School of Governance aims to connect research, education, and practice. Membership in ALF would allow us to collaborate more closely with civil society actors, support capacity-building for young professionals, and expand our impact beyond academia. It would also provide valuable opportunities for our students and researchers to engage with diverse perspectives, reinforcing our commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding across the Mediterranean region.
