General Information

About Buklan

Baklan was established in 2023 as an extension of the Aman Initiative, which was launched in 2018 through the Jordan River Foundation (Queen Rania Family and Child Center), with support and funding from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). At that time, it worked on child protection from abuse and providing safe spaces for children, and aimed to integrate refugees into host communities.
To achieve the concept of sustainability, Baklan Organization, through the Aman Initiative, established effective partnerships with many international organizations and civil society institutions, which allowed it to expand its scope of work to include various societal issues such as reducing gender-based violence, addressing university violence, as well as building and developing youth capacities in humanitarian and environmental work.

Main Projects / Activities

Specialized Programs

In light of increasing global challenges, we launched a series of specialized programs aimed at empowering individuals and communities to address various social and environmental issues. Through these programs, we seek to create a positive and sustainable impact, and aspire to enhance cooperation among participants and expand their influence in their communities.

1- Combating Violence Against Women and Girls:

We participated in preparing a guide for combating violence against women and girls in Arab higher education institutions under the sponsorship and funding of UNESCO's Regional Office. This project included the participation of many higher education institutions from across the Arab world. The guide was officially presented at the American University in Egypt.

2- Risk-Taking Program:

We launched a specialized program "Risk-Taking" targeting 130 community activists from various countries, focusing on familiarizing participants with the legal dimensions of community violence and providing training workshops on gender justice and equal opportunities. The program also included all youth proposals on reducing the phenomenon of violence.

3- Comprehensive Training Program for Youth Climate Action 2024:

The comprehensive training program for youth climate action continued for three months, targeting about 450 climate action institutions and entities from various countries. The program included a series of 16 workshops and specialized courses addressing several topics including addressing climate change, joint action for a safe environment, and providing sustainable resources. It also included training on how to obtain funding for implementing climate-related programs and projects, especially in developing countries. This program was implemented in partnership with Jerash University, the National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development.

4- Crisis Management and Obstacle Overcoming Program:

This program focused on discussing asylum issues and methods of integration in host communities, in addition to strategies for mitigating the effects of armed conflicts in the region. It also addressed the topic of strengthening community immunity to face various crises and focused on the role of media during crises.
The program included hosting a group of experts specialized in conflicts and crises. Among the program's outputs was the pursuit of developing an academic track for university students focusing on crises, conflicts, and international peace.

5- First Consultative Meeting Program:

With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the expansion of e-learning, the need emerged to evaluate the effectiveness of this type of education. In this context, we organized the "First Consultative Meeting" which brought together 14 Arab universities. The meeting aimed to exchange university experiences in e-learning and discuss strategies to improve its quality. This meeting resulted in providing practical insights and solutions to improve the e-learning experience and enhance its effectiveness.

6- University Knowledge Marathon:

The "University Knowledge Marathon" is a youth program for discussing various issues through organizing student competitions, challenges, and effective debates. The program provides students with the opportunity to transfer knowledge and achieve goals in an interactive and inspiring way. In its second season, the program witnessed the participation of 8 universities, reflecting its success and expanding influence in the academic community.

7- Volunteer Work Course:

Since 2020, we have been teaching the "Volunteer Work" course to university students, benefiting more than 4,000 students. The course includes a series of sessions aimed at preparing students for the job market and promoting concepts of active citizenship and constructive partnership. The course focuses on providing students with the necessary skills and experiences to support their initiatives and enhance their positive contribution to society.
Training and Development:

The Training and Development department focuses on designing and implementing comprehensive training programs aimed at enhancing skills and developing personal and professional capabilities. Through our partnerships with international organizations, academic institutions, and development organizations, we have delivered more than 70 courses and workshops in various fields, in addition to organizing awareness sessions and innovative initiatives, reflecting our commitment to creating a positive and sustainable impact in society.

1- Project to Enhance Case Management Services for Gender-Based Cases and Child Protection

Implemented by the Jordan River Foundation, and as co-leaders, we provided innovative awareness sessions to deepen adolescents' understanding of protection concepts and types of abuse. We also focused on strengthening their essential life skills such as time management, self-discovery, and goal planning. One of the most prominent outcomes of these sessions was the development of community initiatives led by adolescents, funded by UNHCR, where they developed and implemented innovative initiatives to address challenges they face in their communities.

We created a distinctive summer experience by organizing a summer club that allows adolescents to immerse themselves in various extracurricular activities, including arts, sports, and culture, which enhanced their creativity and social interaction.

2- Reducing Gender-Based Violence

In collaboration with CARE Jordan, we trained fifty university students on how to address gender-based violence.

In partnership with DOT Canada, we conducted several workshops focused on reducing gender-based violence. As an outcome of these workshops, the "Mujazafa" program was launched, aimed at promoting gender justice.

Launch of a series of workshops on gender-based violence and leadership skills development, targeted at youth and adolescents in several centers affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Youth.

3- Youth Capacity Development in Humanitarian Work

In partnership with United Mission for Relief (UMR), we launched an initiative to build and develop youth capacities in humanitarian work in the Middle East and North Africa, where the initiative aimed to introduce participants to the basics and principles of humanitarian work, highlighting active actors and donors. The initiative also addressed enhancing emergency response and providing peer psychological support.
