Camden Abu Dis Society has open membership to people over 18 in Abu Dis, who elect a committee annually. The Society is housed in Dar Assadaqa which is a community centre funded by the Camden Abu Dis Friendship Association (based in London). There are committees for women, youth, education and health which meet to co-ordinate an educational programme at Dar Assadaqa. Camden Abu Dis Society itself has no employees and relies on voluntary work and the help of the CADFA co-ordinator in Abu Dis whose salary is paid from London. The centre is a focus for exchanges and visits between the two places and for human rights work as well as classes and clubs for women and young people. We have a small budget from CADFA and from contributions from members and people who attend courses. Last year this was about 25000 NIS.Mission and Objectives
To build friendship and twinning links between organisations in Camden, London and Abu Dis in order to take the Palestinian voice to the world, so that ordinary people in Abu Dis have a way of communicating their sufferings and that ordinary people in Camden and the West can learn about our situation and so that we can work together to promote human rights and respect for international humanitarian law. Our activities focus on educational and creative activities that give youth and women a voice and we work with Camden Abu Dis Friendship Association to organise visits of people between the two places.Main Projects / Activities
