CARE Česká republika (registered association, IČ: 22694102, Prague) is a full member of CARE International since 2007 and part of its global network (CARE Confederation) operating in over 121 countries and helped 53 million people in need in year 2024 alone. The organisation is governed by a executive board of 6 members and a small professional team consisting of 11 people based in Prague, focused on fundraising & communication, project management, finances, and operations. Funding comes from individual donors, corporate partners, and institutional sources; 88 % of managed resources go directly to aid and projects, 8 % fundraising and awareness raising and 4 % administration, control and management. In 2024, CARE Česká republika implemented 12 projects — 9 in 6 foreign countries (Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yemen, Ethiopia, Syria,) and 3 in the Czech Republic. Modalities include emergency humanitarian response, long-term development programmes, and public fundraising. Key partners include CARE International member organisations, Czech institutional donors, and local implementing partners in target countries.

Vision: A world of hope, inclusion and social justice, where poverty is overcome and all people live with dignity and safety.
Mission: To save lives, fight poverty and achieve social justice worldwide.
Focus: Women and girls are placed at the centre of all work, as they are most affected by crises. Equality cannot be achieved without equal rights and opportunities for all.
Six strategic priorities (CARE Vision 2030):
1) Gender equality — combating gender-based violence, supporting girls' education and women's leadership
2) Response to humanitarian crises — emergency shelter, water, food, hygiene, and reproductive health support
3) Right to food and water — supporting smallholder farmers, improving water access and nutrition resilience
4) Right to health care — equitable access to quality health care, especially for women and girls
5) Economic justice for women — access to decent work, financial services and entrepreneurship
6) Climate justice — supporting frontline communities to adapt, and advocating at international level
Main Projects / Activities
In 2024, CARE Česká republika implemented 12 projects — 9 abroad and 3 in the Czech Republic — with 88% of all managed resources going directly to aid and projects. The work spanned humanitarian response and long-term development cooperation across four regions: eastern Europe and the Balkans (41%), the Czech Republic (33%), Africa (14%), and the Middle East (12%).
The largest share of resources was directed to Ukraine, where CARE focused on integrated protection and shelter for conflict-affected residents in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and on improving access to healthcare and restoring the health system in eastern Ukraine. In Ethiopia, three parallel projects addressed water, sanitation and hygiene needs of internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities through innovative solar-powered water systems in the North Gonder and East Hararghe regions, alongside a disaster risk reduction and resilience-building programme in the Borana zone. In Yemen, CARE provided WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) assistance to vulnerable displaced populations and host communities in the Al Qanawis district of Hodeidah. In Syria, the organisation focused on restoring livelihoods and economic independence for the most vulnerable women in the Dayr az-Zawr region.
In the Western Balkans, two development projects were implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina: an inclusive socio-economic initiative in the Brčko District, and a Right to the Future project co-funded by the European Union. In the Czech Republic, CARE responded to devastating floods in North Moravia by supporting the restoration of schools and kindergartens, enabling children to return to safe learning environments. A public awareness campaign, Klimatická změna diskriminuje (Climate Change is Sexist), brought new data and inspiring stories of women's resilience from around the world into the Czech public debate. Finally, the Mastercard Strive programme supported micro and small entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic, with a strong focus on women-led micro businesses.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
CARE Česká republika can contribute to the ALF Czech National Network by bringing its extensive experience in gender equality, human rights, and development education to intercultural dialogue initiatives in the country. Through projects such as Klimatická změna diskriminuje, we have demonstrated our capacity to engage Czech civil society and the general public around complex global challenges through storytelling, advocacy and community outreach. We work with a diverse range of communities in the Czech Republic, including migrants, refugees and women facing economic exclusion, and can contribute perspectives that are often underrepresented in cultural dialogue spaces. We are also well positioned to connect the ALF Network with our broader international partnerships across Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, enriching Euro-Mediterranean exchanges with field-based knowledge and cross-regional experience.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Joining the ALF Network reflects CARE Česká republika's strategic commitment to localization — shifting power and resources closer to the communities most affected by inequality and crisis. We believe that sustainable change is driven by grassroots actors, and we see the ALF Network as a natural space to strengthen our connections with civil society organisations, cultural institutions and community-led initiatives that share this vision. As we deepen our work in the Czech Republic and expand our engagement with diaspora communities and people with migration experience, the cultural and intercultural dimension of our work is growing in importance. Membership in the ALF Network would allow us to extend our expertise into the cultural sector, build new partnerships with organisations working at the intersection of culture, inclusion and social justice, and learn from peers across the Euro-Mediterranean region. We are particularly drawn to ALF's emphasis on inclusive narratives, challenging inequalities and amplifying voices that are too rarely heard — values that sit at the very heart of CARE's mission.
