General Information

Casa d'Abóbora is a youth association that was born in Lugar de Aldeia (Cinfães, Viseu), a village with only 30 population but since there we have opened our target group to all the area of Cinfães (around 17.000 inhabitants). Our focus is to put the Village on the map, through two objectives: the preservation and promotion of the local cultural heritage and also with the cultural dynamization of the village and the municipality of Cinfães. Another focus of work is the sustainability and reconnection with the countryside, as the association's founding group moved to Aldeia looking for an alternative lifestyle to the city, having a will to create and preserve the intergenerational knowledge. Now, in the team there are 3 manager/workers part-time, one intern full time in the area of education and support. We work with european funding and local independent projects. We work in projects that focus on fighting depopulation in the rural area from - arts, heritage, education, etc.

Mission and Objectives

The objetives of the organisation are: preservation of the local heritage and cultural dynamization of the rural area of Cinfães. The main objective is to preserve, promote and boost the cultural heritage of the low-density rural area of the municipality of Cinfães. Thus, the mission is illustrated in the promotion of socio-cultural and artistic activities and actions that aim to integrate visitors with local inhabitants. The dream is to build an intergenerational and sustainable network, valuing, preserving and boosting the local socio-cultural heritage. It is also intended to encourage discussion on topics related to rural areas and their desertification.

Main Projects / Activities

In relation to the activities of Casa d'Abóbora, we try to carry out a varied monthly cultural program that will present new opportunities to the population, among the various events created are concerts, workshops with multiple topics connected with sustainability, card tournaments, documentary screenings, mushroom identification tours. In addition, we have several long-term projects: Ambiente Ativista (IMVF sub- granting), which focused on the topic of the importance of water together with high school teenagers. Also, we have PS: Aldeia (project with the aim to preserve the monthly sayings illustrated with invited artists) and the itinerant exhibition IMAGINALDEIA that help us with the focus on preserving the local heritage, and some other projects could be Florir project (independent and free project with the aim of registration and helping with selling/renting houses in our rural area) Vozês or even Re-conectar. Actually, the organization is working with three KA2 small scale: - COMMON-GOOD (Coordinators): project with duration of 18 months that aims to preserve the local heritage through mapping local actors that still preserve it and share it with the community through workshops to learn and preserve the local heritage. PARTNERS: ID20 (Slovenia) and Super Tineri ASIRYS (Romenia) - Digital Adult = A Better Life – project with duration of 12 months that aims to provide digital competences for adults in the rural areas, through workshops, intercultural mobilities and English classes. - DIVERURAL (Coordinators) – project with duration of 10 months the aims to connect the new migrant community in the area of Cinfães with the locals through several activities as multiethnic dinners, “country celebrations”, etc. - FORMARURAL (Coordinators): that aims to train local cultural actors in different ways to improve their capacity of networking and entrepreneurship. - RURAL GREENERS (Coordinators): that aims to recognize the need of young entrepreneurs in rural areas and proportionate training in those areas for them to improve their projects.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We would be the only organisation of Cinfães connected with the Anna Lindh foundation and we believe we could share the activities you realise as well as try to apply to different opportunities available from your side in order to bring more mediterranean and intercultural heritage to this area.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We would love to start connecting with different foundations that work in the areas we want to improve in this rural area, as for example the art and intercultural dialogue. So we believe we will have a support of knowledge from the ALF!
