A project titled ,,Enabling a just transition in Macedonia by increasing the opportunities for the use of renewables”- aimed at regions heavily dependent on coal in North Macedonia (specifically towns like Bitola, Novaci, Mogila, Tetovo) to support them becoming more sustainable.
A project: ,,Regional partnership for better implementation of the green agenda for the Western Balkans at local level” to support North Macedonia’s transition towards EU green agenda goals via inclusive local implementation.
A project: “Youth action for clean air” -focused on building youth capacity for advocacy and giving young people a voice in the fight for clean air.
Project - “Boosting positive perception for the Just Transition Processes on local level”-This project aims to boost the positive perception of just transition processes at the local level in North Macedonia by raising awareness, mobilizing communities, and addressing policy barriers to decentralized energy production. Through a sensitization campaign, Solar Days, practical workshops, storytelling videos, and policy labs, the project will empower citizens, small businesses, and local authorities to understand and engage in prosumer models and energy communities. By combining awareness-raising, hands-on engagement, and policy advocacy, the project will strengthen local participation in the clean energy transition and support a fair, inclusive, and community-driven shift toward renewable energy.
Project Name: Youth and Women Leading Rural Waste Transitions – We LEAD Rural-We LEAD Rural aims to improve sustainable waste practices in rural communities of North Macedonia by empowering youth and women to lead local waste transitions. Through capacity-building workshops, hands-on training, public awareness campaigns, and the establishment of a functional plastic waste separation system in three pilot rural municipalities, the project strengthens knowledge, builds local waste infrastructure, and promotes circular economy solutions. By engaging households, Public Utility Companies, and municipalities, the initiative enhances environmental protection, reduces pollution, and supports long-term community resilience and participation in sustainable rural development.

The project fosters collaboration between CSOs, governmental bodies, and international actors to advance effective climate mitigation measures. It includes public awareness campaigns, development of Local Green Agendas in Albania and North Macedonia, transnational and national exchange events, capacity-building workshops, a Best Practice Toolbox, and a manifesto on transnational climate governance. Project-Green Participatory Budgeting for Local Environmental Action and Sustainable Future (Green B-LEAF)-Green B-LEAF supports rural Mediterranean communities to better adapt to climate change by integrating participatory budgeting with detailed climate data and green budget tagging. The project equips local residents and municipalities with tools to co-design, prioritize, and fund green initiatives, strengthening local resilience and sustainability. Through cross-border cooperation, shared learning, and a strong focus on values such as beauty, sustainability, and inclusion, the project builds long-term capacity for climate-responsive planning and fosters a transnational community committed to greener living areas across the Mediterranean.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
The Center for Climate Change in North Macedonia can contribute to the Anna Lindh Foundation by promoting intercultural dialogue through climate action, using environmental issues as a shared platform to unite diverse communities. With its strong experience in youth engagement, community outreach, and sustainable development projects, the Center can support ALF through joint youth trainings, cross-cultural environmental initiatives, awareness campaigns, and local–regional partnerships that strengthen civic participation and social cohesion. By combining technical expertise in climate resilience with inclusive public dialogue, the Center can help advance ALF’s mission of fostering cooperation, understanding, and shared Mediterranean values.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
I want to join the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Network because it provides a unique platform to collaborate with organizations across the Euro-Mediterranean region, promote intercultural dialogue, and amplify the impact of our work in climate action, environmental protection and sustainable energy. Being part of the network will allow us to exchange knowledge, build meaningful partnerships, and contribute to shared initiatives that strengthen social cohesion, empower youth, and address common regional challenges. Through ALF, we can bring our expertise in sustainability, clean energy, environmental awareness, and civil society development into a broader dialogue that connects people, cultures, and ideas.
