Main Projects / Activities

TrialsNet
Crossmedia Europe – 6G Large-Scale Trials in Culture, Tourism & Metaverse Applications

TrialsNet is a flagship EU initiative under the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), focused on validating 6G technologies through large-scale real-world trials across Europe. The project demonstrates how next-generation connectivity—combining ultra-low latency, AI-native networking, edge computing, and advanced XR—can generate tangible societal and industrial impact.

Within this framework, Crossmedia Europe contributes to three strategic use cases in the domain of Culture, Tourism & Metaverse-enabled environments, positioning immersive storytelling and experiential design at the core of 6G innovation.

Crossmedia Europe – Three Key Use Cases
1. Extended XR Museum Experience

Crossmedia Europe develops immersive Extended Reality (XR) platforms that enhance on-site and remote museum visits through AR/VR interfaces, digital storytelling, and interactive multimedia layers.

The use case demonstrates how 6G connectivity enables:

Seamless high-definition streaming of immersive content

Real-time interaction between visitors and digital assets

Hybrid physical-digital cultural experiences

Accessibility beyond geographical constraints

This application validates 6G as an enabler of inclusive, scalable, and high-quality cultural engagement.

2. Parks in the Metaverse

This use case blends physical urban parks with metaverse-based digital environments, integrating gamification, collaborative exploration, and immersive overlays.

Crossmedia Europe contributes to:

Narrative design and experiential architecture

Interactive digital layers synchronized with real-world spaces

Multi-user immersive participation supported by high-performance networks

The trial illustrates how 6G can transform public spaces into interactive ecosystems that foster tourism, community engagement, and cultural participation.

3. Control Room in the Metaverse

Extending beyond cultural applications, this use case explores metaverse-enabled coordination environments for operators and decision-makers.

Crossmedia Europe supports the design of 3D collaborative spaces where:

Real-time data visualization enhances situational awareness

Distributed teams interact within shared immersive environments

High-bandwidth, low-latency 6G networks ensure reliability and performance

This demonstrates the cross-sector potential of immersive digital twins and metaverse applications across safety, logistics, and public service domains.

Strategic Impact

Crossmedia Europe’s contribution highlights the convergence of connectivity, immersive content, and human-centered design. Through TrialsNet, 6G is not only tested as a technological upgrade, but validated as a transformative infrastructure capable of reshaping how citizens experience culture, public spaces, and collaborative environments.

By bridging advanced network capabilities with experiential innovation, Crossmedia Europe supports Europe’s leadership in next-generation digital ecosystems while delivering measurable societal value.
