Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Cultural and Folklore Association of Kozani “Koziáni” is the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of the rich cultural heritage and folk traditions of Kozani and the broader region of Western Macedonia. The association aims to foster intergenerational transmission of traditional dance, music, and customs, while actively engaging the local community and youth in cultural participation.
Key objectives include:
Reviving and preserving local traditions and folk customs.
Educating young generations on cultural identity through dance and folklore.
Promoting intercultural dialogue and collaboration with cultural institutions across Greece and Europe.
Supporting cultural sustainability and community cohesion through active participation in festivals, seminars, and cultural networks.

Main Projects / Activities

Traditional Dance Groups: Operation of five dance groups (two for children and three for adults) participating in national and local cultural events.
Participation in the Kozani Carnival (Kozanitiki Apokria): One of the fifteen officially recognized carnival groups (Fanoi), celebrating and promoting the unique local carnival traditions.
Annual Children and Youth Dance Gathering: For the past 16 years, “Koziáni” has organized one of the largest national folk dance events for children and teenagers in Greece, welcoming over 2,000 young dancers and more than 90 cultural associations from across the country.
Cultural Events and Seminars: Hosting traditional dance festivals, folklore seminars, and participating in nationwide children’s folklore festivals.
Cultural Outreach and Education: Promoting the cultural identity of Kozani through ongoing educational and cultural programs aimed at broad public participation.
