General Information

The Danish Library Association (DLA) was founded in 1905 to represent public libraries politically. The association employs 9 people and a turnover of close to €2 mn. DLA employs a unique mixture of library directors and local politicians in its governance structure. The day-to-day operations are carried out by the secretariat. DLA also publishes a quarterly public library magazine.

Mission and Objectives

The purpose of Danish Library Association (DLA) is to promote the Danish library sector and to facilitate cooperation and the exchange of experiences and ideas within the entire cultural sector related to libraries, including cultural and educational institutions in the broadest sense nationally and internationally. DLA aims to enhance the dissemination of information, knowledge, and experiences through public libraries. DLA focuses especially on public libraries as critical democratic infrastructure and as information and community hubs for sustainability and information and knowledge hereof.

Main Projects / Activities

DLA acts for Danish public libraries as an advocate, a lobbyist, a knowledge hub, a network and project manager in large projects involving public libraries. DLA is also involved in several international library associations such as EBLIDA and IFLA.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We'd love to learn more!

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

I have been very impressed with the philosophy and actions of the ALF and had the opportunity to be a panelist at ALForum 2025. There is potential for mutually enriching knowledge sharing.
