General Information

Darkplay Theatre is an Athens based, newly established non-profit organisation focused primarily on the production of new, emerging theatre and events with cross-cultural potential. Co-directed by all of its international 7 members. Currently it is funded purely via private, individual funds and crowdfunding. Having only just emerged, its budget is limited but expected to reach up to 20.000 by the end of the year. All proceeds go into the production and promotion of its work and the support of its artists. Its first bilingual, multicultural and multimedia theatrical production, "I Am the Labyrinth" is to launch in Athens this October at PLYFA, after giving a first taste in Athens's Off Off Summer Festival at Epi Kolono Theatre. An immersive, multimedia production, one of the first of its kind to hit the Athenian scene with acclaimed performers from local theatre, television and cinema, mixing with 20 international creatives. Founding Partners include: Chris Trevor (Creative Producer), Riginos Riginou (Director) and Ismene Daskarolis (PR - Communication & Funding) among seven other permanent partners.

Mission and Objectives

Darkplay Theatre's main objective is to bring a new kind of theatre and event wave to the Greek and international audience, that knows no cultural or artistic boundaries, combining various types of media and artforms with a variety of languages and cultures.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are passionate about promoting intercultural dialogue and international collaboration in the production of art through young and emerging talent. For this reason, we believe that we have a lot to contribute to the network's goals and objectives. Our artistic approach contains themes that are universally applicable and methods that are flexible for crossing boarders. We'd be happy to collaborate with other members of the Network in order to bring the production abroad, recreate it with local talent in different places, touching upon local themes, issues and ideas and enhance these unique historical bonds that already exist and are familiar throughout the Mediterranean.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

The ALF Network would be decisive for our growth, both for our launching project but also for the future of our projects and organisation. Seeing that this is a non-profit, supported primarily through private funds and volunteers, the ALF Network's support would allow us to continue our work but mainly, through its extensive programs, it will allow us to expand our possibilities, grow and learn the best ways to enhance our international collaborations and reach our goals in a wider landscape.
