General Information

Established in 2010 by the Egyptian Presidential Decree No. 91/2010, Deraya University is a not-for-profit private institution located in Al-Minya governorate, South Egypt. Our campus spans 47 acres, and in a short period, we have grown to offer five undergraduate and four graduate programs, addressing the evolving needs of the region.

Mission and Objectives

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY & INNOVATION

Deraya University is dedicated to fostering research, sustainability, and innovation through the Deraya Center for Research and Sustainability. We also promote excellence in teaching methodologies via our Teaching and Learning Center.

As an emerging higher education institution in the Middle East, particularly in Upper Egypt, we embrace John Dewey’s philosophy that “education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” Our vision is to unlock the potential of our undergraduate and graduate students by exploring diverse knowledge spaces.

Main Projects / Activities

Aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030, Deraya University integrates sustainability into all aspects of its operations. We are committed to supporting and promoting the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), conducting research to address sustainable development challenges, and providing educational opportunities that equip students with the knowledge and skills to promote sustainable development. Our campuses and major programs are designed to be environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive, ensuring long-term positive impacts on society.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

I can uniquely contribute to the ALF Civil Society Network through my extensive experience and dedication to fostering intellectual growth and sustainable peace. Leveraging my role as the International Cooperation Office Focal Point, I can facilitate partnerships and exchange programs that promote mutual understanding and collaboration between diverse cultures within the network. As an Advisor at the Centre for Research and Sustainability (CRS), I can lead initiatives that align with the network's goals of sustainable development, sharing best practices and innovative solutions to common challenges. My position as an Assistant Professor allows me to integrate the network's values into my curriculum, encouraging students to engage with civil society initiatives and fostering a new generation of socially responsible leaders. Through my role as Chairholder of the Boutros Boutros-Ghali Chair for Sustainable Peace, I can organize seminars, workshops, and conferences that address critical issues related to peace and sustainability, providing a platform for dialogue and action. My commitment to personal and intellectual growth within the university community can be extended to the network, offering mentorship and support to other members, helping them to realize their potential and contribute effectively to the network's objectives. Additionally, my recognition as the Best Faculty Member and my involvement in the U.S. Department of State’s cultural exchange program highlight my ability to identify and nurture talent. I can advocate for the network's initiatives and help in selecting and promoting promising projects and individuals. By integrating these contributions into my work with the ALF Civil Society Network, I can significantly enhance the network's impact and help turn aspirations into tangible achievements, much like I have done throughout my career. How do you feel about these potential contributions?

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

I want to join the ALF Network because it aligns perfectly with my commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue, sustainable development, and intellectual growth. Being part of this network will allow me to collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations, share best practices, and contribute to meaningful initiatives that promote peace and sustainability. Additionally, the network provides a platform to extend my work beyond the university, enabling me to mentor and support other members, advocate for promising projects, and help turn aspirations into tangible achievements. Joining the ALF Network is an opportunity to amplify my impact and work towards a more inclusive and sustainable future. How do you feel about the potential benefits of joining the network?
