Diaspora Solidarity Group is a community-based initiative supporting refugees, migrants, and vulnerable communities, with a particular focus on women and families affected by displacement, including those impacted by the war in Ukraine. The organization works through a small coordination team, volunteers, and collaborations with local and international partners. Its annual activities are supported through project-based funding, donations, partnerships, and in-kind contributions. The group’s modality of action combines direct community support, awareness-raising, non-formal education, advocacy, and capacity-building. Its concrete activities include solidarity campaigns, workshops, trainings, community exchanges, and events addressing inclusion, digital safety, social cohesion, and combating hate speech. Main partners involved in project activities include civil society organizations, diaspora networks, youth organizations, local community groups, and institutions working in the fields of humanitarian support, gender equality, inclusion, and social justice.
Mission and Objectives
Diaspora Solidarity Group’s mission is to uphold human dignity, promote human rights, and foster inclusive, peaceful, and resilient communities through solidarity, intercultural dialogue, and social justice. The organization works to support refugees, migrants, and other vulnerable groups, especially women and people affected by displacement, exclusion, conflict, climate change, and barriers to integration. Its objectives are to promote equality, participation, integration, and community resilience; strengthen mutual understanding between diaspora and host communities; combat discrimination, hate speech, and social exclusion; and create opportunities for learning, exchange, empowerment, and climate awareness. Through its activities, Diaspora Solidarity Group contributes to dialogue across cultures, active citizenship, gender equality, environmental responsibility, and the development of more cohesive societies grounded in respect, diversity, and shared responsibility.
Main Projects / Activities
Diaspora Solidarity Group implements online and offline community-based initiatives supporting refugees, migrants, and vulnerable groups, with a particular focus on women, integration, and social inclusion. Its main activities include solidarity actions and direct support for people affected by displacement, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine; community events, intercultural exchanges, seminars, webinars, workshops, and training sessions that foster dialogue between diaspora and host communities; and awareness campaigns on human rights, gender equality, climate justice, digital safety, hate speech, and social cohesion. The organization also develops educational and advocacy activities, local and international partnerships, and empowerment projects that encourage active citizenship, resilience, participation, and the building of more inclusive, peaceful, and sustainable societies.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Diaspora Solidarity Group can contribute to the Network in Romania by bringing experience in community-based work, intercultural dialogue, and support for refugees, migrants, and vulnerable groups. The organization can support the Network through facilitation, co-organizing events, webinars, workshops, seminars, community dialogues, and awareness campaigns on topics such as human rights, gender equality, integration, climate justice, digital safety, and social cohesion. It can also help mobilize diverse communities, especially women, young people, and diaspora groups, while creating connections between local actors and international partners. Through its grassroots experience, outreach capacity, and collaborative approach, Diaspora Solidarity Group can strengthen participation, visibility, and meaningful engagement within the Anna Lindh Foundation Network in Romania.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We want to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network because we strongly believe in the power of dialogue, solidarity, and human connection to build more inclusive, peaceful, and resilient communities. We are motivated to become part of a network that shares our commitment to human rights, intercultural understanding, social justice, and meaningful community engagement. As an organization working closely with refugees, migrants, women, and other vulnerable groups, we see this as an important opportunity to learn, exchange, and collaborate with like-minded actors across Romania, the Euro-Mediterranean region, and beyond the EU. We are especially interested in being in contact with members from outside the European Union in order to deepen mutual understanding, share perspectives, and build stronger cross-border partnerships. Joining the ALF Network would also create valuable opportunities for our members through partnerships, exchanges, capacity-building, visibility, and participation in regional initiatives, events, webinars, and collaborative projects. We also hope to contribute our grassroots experience and help strengthen a shared vision of dignity, inclusion, mutual respect, and social cohesion.
