General Information

DiverGen is a farm, located in Tamerieh village in Marjeoun-South Lebanon, founded by Dr. Mazen K. El Tamer during Lebanon’s 2019 revolution and is dedicated to positively impacting the quality of Human food and health. Mazen is a Lebanese-Dutch agriculture engineer that graduated in 2002 from Wageningen University (The Netherlands) with a PhD in biotechnology. With a large exposure to an academic and multi-cultural environment, Mazen specializes in tissue culture, gene cloning, biochemical engineering and their applications. As an initiator of creativity, innovation and advanced productivity, his research area primarily focused on agriculture biotechnology using its multidisciplinary tools, starting from DNA cloning and editing of encoded enzymes involved in the production of taste and smell chemicals in plants. In parallel, focused on enhancing Global food security, he helped elucidate the developmental program of somatic embryos for plant multiplication through cutting-edge tissue culture techniques. Then, in order to ensure a healthy quality of life for the elderly, he helped develop a chemical screening system to isolate plant chemicals potentially leading to the treatment of taste and smell disorders in old age. Later on, his studies at the molecular level contributed to the elucidation, isolation and activation of stem cells for the repair of Human heart muscle, bone and brain tissues in-vivo.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the farm DiverGen is the development and processing of safe, medicinal, plant-derived chemicals and products for valuable agricultural commodities and improved personal healthcare. Through its managing director’s long scientific research career, DiverGen identified and characterized safe plants-based compounds with specific health-promoting properties and aims to further research selected ones, in the field as well as and in the laboratory, through a Mediterranean Scientific Cooperation for Innovation. Innovative plant products are highly expected to be generated at pilot scale level by cooperating partners, within a relatively short time period (1-2 years), and later commercialized to major International players in personal healthcare.

Main Projects / Activities

Main projects:
1-Citrus plants: Most-welcomed regeneration.
2-Tobacco plants: Hello cancer-prevention smoke.
3-Medicinal Cannabis plants: Farewell to the skunky smell.
