DOO performing arts group – (Divano Occidentale Orientale) was founded by Giuseppe L. Bonifati in 2010, joined in 2013 by Linda Sugataghy. The group’s artistic project began in Italy and later expanded into Northern Europe, emerging from a deep need to create and produce art through rigorous research and dialogue between different generations. DOO stands for VISION, AESTHETICS, ACTION — a wide-ranging artistic project and a continuous journey of cross-cultural contamination beyond geographical borders. From the very beginning, the company’s main concern has been one essential question: how can art confront the unconscious and the unknown?
Over 15 years of activity, the company has produced a wide variety of works presented at major festivals, theatres, museums, and artistic platforms across Italy, Denmark, Costa Rica, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia, Iran, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Spain, Israel, Russia, the United States, Romania, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Greece, Albania, and many other countries.

Mission and Objectives
DOO’s mission is to develop contemporary performing arts as a space of research, encounter, and transformation, working across borders, disciplines, and generations. The group investigates how artistic practice can engage with the unconscious, the unknown, and the invisible layers of human experience, creating performances that emerge from deep research and lived interaction in diverse contexts.
Objectives
To create original interdisciplinary performances rooted in artistic research and experimentation
To foster dialogue between different generations of artists, thinkers, and communities
To work across geographical and cultural borders, promoting international collaboration and mobility
To develop site-specific and context-responsive artistic practices in both urban and non-traditional spaces
To explore the relationship between body, space, memory, and perception through performative language
To support long-term artistic processes that prioritise depth over speed of production
To activate public space as a field for encounter, reflection, and unexpected artistic experience
To continuously question and expand the role of theatre in contemporary society
Main Projects / Activities
Between 2010 and 2020, the group held its artistic residency at Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium – Odin Teatret (Holstebro, Denmark) and also participated in residency programs across Europe and Central America, including Art Quarter Budapest (Hungary), Godsbanen (Denmark), Venice Biennale (Italy), GuestRoom Maribor (Slovenia), and Cité Internationale des Arts & Les Pépinières (France).
In 2016, they founded the artistic movement KUNSTPARTIET / ART PARTY, which now continues through the European mobile project “Artbulance.” Between 2016 and 2019, they directed “Bomhuset – Museum for Miniature Art” in Holstebro. Their performance Mayor in Residence is considered the longest performance ever created by an artistic duo (535 days).
In 2021, they founded DET FLYVENDE TEATER – THE FLYING THEATRE, the world’s first theatre located inside an international airport, at Billund Airport.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
As part of the Anna Lindh Foundation Network in Italy, we can contribute through long-term experience in intercultural performing arts, research-based creation, and international collaboration rooted in Mediterranean and European exchanges.
Through our work with DOO performing arts group, we can support the Network by using theatre and performance as tools for dialogue between cultures, languages, and generations, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean as a shared cultural and symbolic space.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Having participated last year in the ALForum in Tirana with our workshop Zentai for participants, we were deeply inspired by the atmosphere of interculturality, social engagement, and innovation fostered by the Anna Lindh Foundation. We are now also preparing to travel to Tetouan, where one of our performances has been selected to be presented in collaboration with a local partner in Morocco. These experiences further motivate us to continue operating within the orbit of the Anna Lindh Foundation Network and to actively contribute to its ongoing dialogue and development.
