The European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations is an independent umbrella association of library, information and documentation associations and institutions in Europe.

Mission and Objectives

Vision
EBLIDA envisions democratic, equitable and sustainable European societies in which libraries guarantee free and unhindered access to information, knowledge and culture.

Mission
As the knowledge and networking hub for European libraries and associations, EBLIDA lobbies at the EU level to ensure:

  • Greater visibility of libraries among policymakers
  • Supportive policies and legislation across all European governance levels
  • Adequate funding and capacity building so libraries can fulfil their missions.
  • Furthermore, EBLIDA aspires to support libraries’ transition into broader societal hubs centred on access to knowledge, media literacy and reading promotion.

Main Projects / Activities

European Library Associations Network (ELAN) - to strengthen library associations in Europe and to advocate for libraries at the institutions of the European Union.
