The European Institute for Education for Democratic Culture is an academic institution with a scientific and educational vocation whose fundamental purpose is to promote the values of the European Union (EU) and contribute, in particular, to the recognition of cultural diversity and human dignity through education.
Inspired by Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, the Institute focuses its work on fostering a more inclusive and participatory European Union, strengthening democratic principles, and promoting the construction of a more just society based on intercultural dialogue and respect for human rights.
Mission and Objectives
ECUDEM UCV is based on the pressing need to protect human dignity and promote the formation of a European citizenship committed to ethics and the values inherent in human rights. Its mission is to offer recommendations based on scientific evidence, strengthen collaboration between European academic networks, and offer support to third countries outside the European Union in order to promote respect for and guarantee fundamental rights.
ECUDEM UCV focuses its work specifically on issues related to education for European citizenship and the prevention of all forms of discrimination, including racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and anti-Gypsyism. It also analyses the processes of erosion of democratic values both within and outside Europe, promotes youth initiatives aimed at intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and encourages the development of a democratic culture and a culture of peace.
