We are two peace activists, Dina Awad-Sarour and Emma Sham-Baha Ayalon, a Palestinian and an Israeli. We believe that the words of Etty Hillesum carry the deep humanistic wisdom the world so urgently needs today.
Mission and Objectives
The Etty Hillesum Cards Project seeks to cultivate healing, compassion, and human connection through Hillesum’s timeless insights. Inspired by her spiritual resilience during the Holocaust, the project brings her words to diverse communities—Palestinian, Israeli, and international—to encourage deep listening, mutual understanding, and the courage to recognize the humanity in every person. By sharing her teachings across languages and cultures, we aim to foster peacebuilding, personal transformation, and collective trauma healing, supporting communities on their path toward greater reconciliation and collective awakening in conflict zones and beyond.
Main Projects / Activities
1. Publishing Etty Hillesum Cards in Three Languages
We produce, print, and distribute Etty Hillesum wisdom cards in Hebrew, Arabic, and English, reaching diverse communities and supporting multilingual peace education.
2. Online Courses and Peaceworker Networks
We offer ongoing online learning programs—Being a Balm, Transform, My Moral Duty, and Inner and Outer Peacework—designed to deepen awareness, cultivate compassion, and inspire ethical action. These courses build community among peaceworkers who support one another and bring Etty’s values into their lives and work.
3. Annual Etty Hillesum–Inspired Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony (in Israel and Online)
Each year we host a remembrance ceremony honoring Hillesum’s legacy and supporting the healing of collective trauma. Held both in Israel and online, these gatherings include ancient singing, prayers, and readings from Etty’s letters, creating a space for deep listening, shared humanity, and collective healing as communities process mutual pain and move toward reconciliation.
4. International Holocaust Remembrance Day: In Memory of the Innocent
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day we hold a ceremony dedicated to commemorating the names of children killed in the recent war, creating a space for mourning, compassion, and human connection.
5. Community Events, Workshops, and Dialogues
We organize encounters that bring Palestinians, Israelis, and internationals together for learning, reflection, compassion-based dialogue, and peacebuilding practices rooted in Etty Hillesum’s writings.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We would like to offer training programs and share the tools we have developed with other activists.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We seek to join the ALF to connect with a wider community of peacebuilders, expand our impact through shared learning and resources, and strengthen our capacity to bring Etty Hillesum’s values—spiritual grounding, compassion, deep listening, and moral courage—into peacebuilding work. Together, we can help advance the healing and reconciliation our world so deeply needs.
