The European Center for Middle East Studies is an accredited research and education foundation. It is concerned with the scientific study of the different issues of the Middle East in order to examine the challenges that face growth, democracy, and human rights in the region of the Middle East. The (E.C.M.E.S) addresses the present difficulties through analyzing and scrutinizing their historical origin and progress. Furthermore, our work is based on inciting freedom of expression, scientific accuracy and objectivity of information with the aim of obtaining radical solutions. In addition, the (E.C.M.E.S) focuses on strengthening the relation between researchers, specialists, and experts from different political, economic, social, legal, cultural, and religious fields. Another objective of the (E.C.M.E.S) is to collaborate and partner with research centers, research and academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
The primary function of the European Center for Middle East Studies is to incite and coordinate research and studies on issues of the Middle East in social and official contexts, including lectures, conferences, seminars, and panel discussions. The (E.C.M.E.S) also provides the public with free educational resources, and professional development and training programs. The (E.C.M.E.S) carries out this mission by conducting research and analysis, managing the Department of Training and Public Education, holding conferences and workshops, and creating academic and political disciplines. In many of its projects, the (E.C.M.E.S) works in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, international organizations and local organizations.

The European Center for Middle Eastern Studies is a reputable research and educational institution dedicated to studying various Middle Eastern issues and shedding light on them from a scientific perspective. Its goal is to address the challenges and dilemmas facing development, democracy, and human rights in the Middle East. The center was founded by Professor Sattar Jabbar Rahman in Leipzig, Germany, in April 2019.
Vision
To utilize academic qualifications and expertise to foster a contemporary understanding of the problems and challenges facing Middle Eastern societies, offering solutions that uphold human dignity, freedom, and prosperity.
Mission
The center’s mission emphasizes the importance of establishing a sound academic approach that addresses the contemporary changes in the Middle East. It combines adherence to academic standards in scientific research with a contemporary perspective and the provision of qualitative contributions.
Goals
Supporting research and studies in the field of Middle Eastern issues.
Building partnerships and coordinating with governmental and non-governmental research institutions concerned with Middle Eastern studies.
Organizing academic and scientific events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Promoting purposeful publications to address critical issues and offer solutions.
Supporting and developing e-learning in the field of Middle Eastern studies.
Main Projects / Activities
Center conferences
In addition to a wide range of workshops, seminars, and other academic and scientific activities, the Center organizes several conferences, focusing on contemporary issues in the Middle East. The proceedings of these conferences are published in the Center's 'Conference Proceedings' series.
The First International Scientific Conference of the Center
The first international scientific conference organized by the European Center, entitled "Elections and the Challenges of Democratic Transition," was held on February 18-19, 2021, in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Electoral Management. The conference featured more than 20 research papers and presentations.
The Second International Scientific Conference of the Center
The second international scientific conference organized by the European Center, titled "New Horizons for the Path of Political Transformation: The Present and Future of Democracy in the Arab Region," was held on March 11-12, 2020. The conference featured more than 18 research papers and presentations.
The Third International Scientific Conference of the Center
The third international scientific conference organized by the European Center, entitled "The Heritage of the Middle East and North Africa: Challenges of Decline and the Task of Preserving Identity," was held in Tunis on February 25-26, 2023. The conference featured more than 15 research papers and presentations.
Middle East and North Africa Studies Network
In October 2024, the European Center for Middle East Studies (ECMES) established the Middle East and North Africa Studies Network (MENASN) to include various institutions concerned with Middle East and North Africa studies, with the purpose of enhancing cooperation between all academic and research institutions.It now includes seven research institutions in the MENA region and is managed and guided by the Center.
Training and Education Platform
The European Center for Middle Eastern Studies has a dedicated platform for training and education through which various training and educational materials are provided. And it creates genuine opportunities for institutions, professors, and students, working towards the center’s goals of promoting democracy, defending human rights, and rejecting all forms of racial discrimination and hatred.
Middle Eastern Visions
Middle Eastern Visions is an intellectual and cultural online platform affiliated with the European Center for Middle Eastern Studies. It specializes in publishing contributions, articles, and research studies In various subjects and specializations in the human, social, economic, and cultural fields.
