Expressarium (Sardinia, Italy) is an independent cultural association dedicated to contemporary performing arts, community engagement, and non-formal education. The organization operates with a flexible structure composed of an artistic director, a small core management team, and a network of artists, facilitators, and cultural professionals collaborating on a project basis. For 2026, Expressarium relies on a mixed financial model that includes European programme funding (such as Erasmus+ and other cultural cooperation initiatives), partnerships with local municipalities and cultural institutions, and co-productions with artistic networks. The association develops and implements projects focused on theatre, participatory arts, youth engagement, and cultural regeneration, often working in rural and peripheral areas of Sardinia. Expressarium collaborates with a wide network of international partners, including NGOs, cultural organisations, and educational institutions across Europe and the Mediterranean, and regularly organizes residencies, workshops, community performances, and intercultural exchanges aimed at strengthening artistic creation and civic participation.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of Expressarium is to promote contemporary performing arts as a tool for social dialogue, cultural participation, and community development. The association works to create accessible artistic experiences that connect artists, young people, and local communities, particularly in rural and peripheral contexts. Through theatre, interdisciplinary arts, and participatory methodologies, Expressarium aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and active citizenship.
Its main objectives are to support emerging artists and cultural practitioners, encourage youth participation through non-formal education, develop international cultural cooperation, and use artistic practices as a means to address social and environmental issues. Main Projects / Activities
