Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus (FHNC) is a bi-communal non profit organisation dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and reimagining Cyprus's fashion and textile heritage. We bring together designers, cultural practitioners, researchers, and communities to explore fashion as a living expression of cultural identity and collective memory. Through public programmes, community events, digital content, and cross-sector partnerships, we create spaces for dialogue between heritage and contemporary creativity. From documenting local textile traditions to organising urban explorations and facilitating conversations on sustainable fashion, FHNC works to keep Cyprus's material culture visible, relevant, and connected to the wider Mediterranean world.
Mission and Objectives
Our mission is to celebrate and preserve the rich textile and fashion heritage of Cyprus while supporting emerging designers, creatives, and cultural practitioners in reinterpreting this heritage for contemporary audiences. We work at the intersection of cultural memory, sustainability, and creative innovation, bringing together designers, artisans, researchers, students, and communities from across the island and the diaspora.
Through our activities, we aim to safeguard traditional knowledge, promote sustainable and ethical approaches to fashion, and create opportunities for intercultural exchange and collaboration. We are committed to fostering dialogue between communities, empowering young people through creativity and education, and encouraging more conscious and culturally rooted approaches to fashion and consumption.
Main Projects / Activities
FHNC has delivered a growing body of work since 2021, including fashion exhibitions, festivals, workshops, and publications. Key highlights include the Tsemberi Fashion Project (2021–2022), presented at the Cyprus High Commission in London and NIMAC in Nicosia; REVIVE Cyprus (2023), a four-day sustainable fashion event attended by over 700 guests; and REVIVE London (2023), the first-ever contemporary fashion exhibition inspired by Cypriot heritage at the Cyprus High Commission in London. In 2024, we co-organised Sustainable Roots, Sustainable Future in collaboration with UNFICYP at the Ledra Palace Hotel, and participated in the Cyprus Fashion Film Festival, showcasing 14 designers' work to an international audience. In late 2025, we launched Crafting Continuity, a bi-communal three-day exhibition in Nicosia attracting over 800 visitors, and Defteri, our first independent publication blending sustainability, cultural memory, and creative storytelling — which sold out on opening night.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
As an intercommunal organisation operating across communities in Cyprus, FHNC is well positioned to contribute to the ALF Network by fostering intercultural dialogue through the shared language of fashion, craft, and heritage. We can organise and participate in joint cultural events, workshops, and exhibitions that bring together diverse communities around shared material culture. We can contribute knowledge and resources related to sustainable fashion and traditional textile practices, and act as a bridge between grassroots creatives and broader regional platforms. Our existing relationships with cultural institutions, diaspora communities, universities, and international partners enable us to amplify the Network's reach and add a distinctive cultural heritage dimension to its activities in Cyprus.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus (FHNC) wishes to join the ALF Network to strengthen its contribution to intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Through our work at the intersection of cultural heritage, fashion, creativity, and sustainability, we bring together diverse communities, artisans, designers, researchers, and young people to preserve and promote shared cultural traditions while fostering innovation.
Joining the ALF Network would provide valuable opportunities to collaborate with like-minded organizations, exchange knowledge and best practices, and develop cross-border initiatives that celebrate cultural diversity and mutual understanding. As an organization operating in a divided context, we are particularly committed to using cultural heritage and creative expression as tools for dialogue, peacebuilding, and community engagement.
