FETEM Association is a newly established NGO based in Fethiye, dedicated to environmental protection and eco-friendly living. Our structure consists of a 5-member Executive Board, a 3-member Supervisory Board, total 22 deeply committed members. As a young organization, our current annual budgetary resources are modest, primarily funded by member contributions and local grassroots donations.
Modalities of Action
Our actions blend fieldwork with community empowerment. Even prior to official registration, we initiated an active environmental campaign, organizing 30 clean-up events that successfully collected 15 tons of waste. Beyond waste management, we deliver educational workshops on sustainability and produce eco-friendly goods to foster green employment and boost the local economy.
Our initiatives are strengthened by robust partnerships, collaborating closely with the Fethiye Municipality, System Generation Foundation, regional NGOs, schools, and sports clubs.
Mission and Objectives
Our mission is very clear: to inspire a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable life in Fethiye and the Mediterranean region. We want to protect our beautiful nature not just by talking, but by taking action together with our local community, youth, international friends and the tourists who visit our beautiful city every year.
What we want to achieve:
Protecting Nature & Speaking Up: We organize regular clean-up events to keep our beautiful nature, beaches, and historical paths clean. At the same time, we advocate for better environmental solutions in our region.
Connecting People: We bring locals, international residents, and local authorities together to work for a common green goal.
Eco-Friendly Education: We organize simple, practical workshops to teach children, youth, and adults how to reduce waste and live a more eco-friendly daily life.
Supporting the Local Economy: We produce eco-friendly goods locally. This way, we both reduce plastic use and create new, green job opportunities for people in our town.
Main Projects / Activities
Although we are a newly established organization, we have been highly active on the ground since the mid of 2024. Our main activities focus on environmental cleaning, community engagement, and sustainability education. Our key activities include:
"Clean Nature, Clean Future" Campaigns: Even before our official establishment, we launched a massive local movement. To date, we have organized 30 environmental clean-up events along our beautiful coastlines, beaches, and historical walking paths. Together with our volunteers, local residents, and visitors, we have successfully collected 15 tons of waste.
Eco-Friendly Production & Social Entrepreneurship: We produce sustainable, eco-friendly goods locally. This activity helps reduce single-use plastics in our daily lives while creating green job opportunities and supporting our local economy.
Environmental Education & Compost Workshops: We organize practical, easy-to-understand workshops for local schools, youth, and adults to teach waste reduction and recycling. As a part of these workshops, we teach people how to make compost in their homes and gardens, helping them directly reduce organic waste right at the source.
Strong Local Collaborations: We do not work alone. All of our activities are done in close partnership with the Fethiye Municipality, System Generation Foundation, regional sports clubs, schools, and other local NGOs to create a bigger impact.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
As a dynamic and action-oriented organization based in Fethiye—a highly international and tourist-heavy region—we can contribute to the ALF National Network in Turkey in several meaningful ways:
Field Experience & Volunteering: We can share our practical experience in organizing large-scale local movements, such as our clean-up campaigns and community volunteer management, with other network members. We have currently 25 active volunteers besides our dedicated 22 official members of our assosiation. More the 1000 people from 30 different countries to our clean-up campains since June 2024.
Green Knowledge & Workshops: We can host or co-organize workshops on eco-friendly living, home/garden composting, and waste reduction for other NGOs and youth groups within the network.
Bridge Between Locals and International Visitors: Since we operate in a touristic hotspot, we can help the network test and implement intercultural dialogue projects that bring Turkish citizens and international visitors together around common green goals.
Active Collaboration: We are eager to bring our energy, our 22 dedicated members, our volunteers and our strong partnerships with local authorities (like Fethiye Municipality) into joint national projects, helping to strengthen the network’s impact on the ground.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We want to join the Anna Lindh Foundation network for three main reasons:
We are a Mediterranean Story: Fethiye is a beautiful Mediterranean town, and our environmental challenges and cultural dynamics are deeply connected to the whole Mediterranean basin. Joining ALF feels like connecting with our natural neighbors to protect our shared sea and nature.
To Learn and Share: As a young and energetic organization, we want to learn from the experiences of other established Mediterranean NGOs. At the same time, we want to share our practical success in local clean-ups, home composting, and community engagement with the network.
To Build International Partnerships: Environmental problems have no borders. We want to use the ALF network to find international partners, welcome Euro-Mediterranean volunteers to our projects, and create joint initiatives that bring locals and tourists together for a greener world.
By joining ALF, we believe we can move our local impact in Fethiye to an international level and be an active, supportive player in the Mediterranean dialogue.
