Fiftyfifty is a Lebanese non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2019 that works to achieve gender balance in decision-making positions across the public and private sectors. Its primary focus is on empowering women politically by training potential female candidates for municipal and parliamentary elections and advocating for the adoption of a women quota law. The organization also operates in fields such as youth engagement, economic empowerment, media, education, and arts & culture. It collaborates with both local and international partners to implement national campaigns, awareness sessions, and capacity-building programs. In 2024 alone, Fiftyfifty trained over 300 potential women candidates and reached more than 2,500 individuals through awareness sessions. Its project budgets vary, with major initiatives like “Women’s Revolution in Politics – Municipalities” reaching $552,000, and others ranging from $10,000 to $239,000. The organization operates with a team of 11 staff members who manage its expanding portfolio of projects across Lebanon.
Mission and Objectives
Fiftyfifty’s mission is to increase women’s participation in political life in Lebanon by fostering gender balance at decision-making levels, with the full support of men. The organization works to challenge societal mindsets and promote the benefits of equal representation in both public and private sectors. Its core objectives include equipping women with the skills and confidence needed to run for political office, advocating for the implementation of a women quota in electoral laws, and creating a strong support network of experienced women leaders. Fiftyfifty also aims to raise public awareness, influence policy reforms, and promote inclusive education by integrating gender equality topics into school curricula. Through its media partnerships, it highlights women’s achievements and promotes their visibility in politics and leadership. Beyond politics, the organization empowers youth, supports women’s economic independence, and leverages digital platforms to advocate for societal change and equal opportunities across Lebanon.
Main Projects / Activities
Fiftyfifty leads a wide range of projects focused on political empowerment, economic independence, youth engagement, and public advocacy. One of its flagship initiatives is the “Women’s Revolution in Politics – Municipalities” project, which trained over 300 potential female candidates and implemented 70 community initiatives across Lebanon. Another major program, “Women Participation in Leadership (WPIL),” included awareness campaigns, media content, and a nationwide billboard campaign promoting the women quota law. On the youth level, the YALA and Young PoliTalks projects empowered young people with leadership, political knowledge, and soft skills. Economically, Boost’Her supported women entrepreneurs from idea to business launch. Fiftyfifty also developed a National Action Plan for Lebanese Women in Politics, uniting NGOs, political actors, and experts across the country. These projects combined in-person and online training, community outreach, media visibility, and data collection, all aimed at increasing women’s representation and building a more inclusive, gender-balanced Lebanon.
