General Information

Foundation FRIDA is a non-governmental women’s and youth organisation working to promote and implement effective gender equality in Lithuania, to reduce discrimination against women and to combat violence against women, children and young people, to foster respect and tolerance of vulnerable groups in society, to expand the protection of human rights, to foster the integration of marginalised people into society, to carry out advocacy, educational and preventive activities. The Foundation’s priority is to prevent gender-based violence and help victims.
The Foundation cooperates with mental health services, the LAS, social workers, the police, embassies, schools and higher education institutions and other educational, cultural and social institutions and NGOs both in Lithuania and internationally.
Foundation was founded by 3 female co-founders. At the moment, there are 1 director, 1 accountant, 2 project managers, 1 activities/communications manager - all employed and all female. Other team members are employed per-project basis and/or volunteers (psychologists, group and art therapy leaders, teenager camp/groups leader, intercultural migrant club organizer, Lithuanian language teachers and others). Our annual budget is about 120000.
Activities carried out and ongoing: girls’ groups (12-18 years old), day centre for adolescents in crisis, counselling, self-help groups for women experiencing violence and abuse, preventive lectures in education and other institutions, organisation of educational events on topical social issues, gender equality, identity and stereotypes for the general public, trainings/seminars for professionals (working with youth and those experiencing violence and/or social exclusion), organisation of the White Ribbon Festival, advocacy on gender-based violence and women’s rights at local and national levels.
We also participate in various national and international projects, both as main organizers and partners. We have successfully carried out projects relevant to our organization topic and funded by Lithuanian Social protection and labor ministry, USA Embassy in Lithuania, European Union, Kaunas city municipality and some others. We have successfully partnered with such Lithuanian NGOs as Red Cross of Lithuania, Refugees Council, KOPZI, TJA, OLF and others.

Mission and Objectives

The Foundation’s mission is to prevent gender-based violence and help victims. Our vision - free democratic society, where women’s rights are recognised as universal human rights, violence against women is regarded as gender-based violence and its eradication and prevention is a national priority. Our objectives: 1. promote and implement effective gender equality in Lithuania 2. reduce discrimination against women and to combat violence against women, children and young people 3. foster respect and tolerance of vulnerable groups in society 4. expand the protection of human rights in Lithuania 5. foster the integration of marginalised people into society 6. carry out advocacy, educational and preventive activities.

Main Projects / Activities

We can help share information of other network members, we can offer our expertise in women's rights and GBV field, if needed for any network member, we can be a partner in a project or help to find a relevant partner.
