General Information

France Volontaires : the French Plateform for international volunteering The 1st of January 2010, AFVP, created in 1963, became France Volontaires. France Volontaires has been created out of a common will of public and non-profit actors, working together. The values and principles of the organization are expressed though its vision and “Code of the international volunteering for exchange and solidarity” : • Its core values (secularism, liberty – equality – fraternity, non formal education (lifelong education and training)) • Multi stakeholders’ pattern based on subsidiarity (State, local authorities, civil societies organizations) • Activities in partnership • Main purpose: to promote and to develop international volunteering

Mission and Objectives

Its mission has a double aspect: 1. Sending volunteers abroad, outside Europe 2. Mission of public interest : • Enabling better understanding and recognition of the various forms of international volunteering • Contributing to the qualitative and quantitative development of international volunteering • Providing support to volunteering organizations • Supporting the consolidation of public policies in France and in Europe on issues linked to international volunteering France Volontaires works with local partners from 55 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, through 22 national representations and about 20 volunteering centers (« espaces volontariats ») 250 volunteers deployed every year on the field 45 members (Organization for non-formal education, for international solidarity, for humanitarian actions, Ministries, local authorities)

Main Projects / Activities

The core thematic we are working on : • The issues of citizenship and engagement • The inclusion of stakeholders in the development sector beyond international volunteering organizations • Advocacy opportunities for recognizing the role of volunteering in national, European and international scales France Volontaires develop a network worldwide of “international volunteering centers” network where every volunteer is welcome and oriented www.reseau-espaces-volontariats.org Observatory for international volunteering for solidarity : http://www.observatoire-volontariat.org The Observatory of French international voluntary is an analysis tool unique and innovative: project from France Volunteers platform, he contributes to qualitative and quantitative development of French international volunteering. The Observatory is a producer and diffuser of knowledge about French volunteering in international solidarity. It aims to become the benchmark for the observation and analysis of the sector. Tool for decision support, it supports the management and development of public policies. By its collection, analysis and valorization activities, The Observatory feeds sector dynamics, sharing practices knowledge’s, pools the expertise and methodologies on volunteering, the experimentations, the innovative practices, the promotion of a quality, etc. Objective: to reflect sector’s diversity and richness, to promote and encourage all stakeholders to contribute to the improvement of knowledge.
