GRO2BE is a non-governmental, non-profit environmental organization based in Komotini, Greece and currently having our headquarters in Kozani. It was founded in early 2020 by a group of young professionals with diverse backgrounds (culture, arts, freelance work), united by a shared concern for environmental degradation and climate change. The organization operates primarily at the local and regional level (Rodopi prefecture), while progressively engaging in European youth and environmental frameworks. GRO2BE functions through volunteer participation, partnerships with municipalities, schools, youth centers, and civil society organizations, and emphasizes community-based, non-formal educational approaches. Its operational philosophy is grounded in active citizenship, inclusiveness, and practical environmental engagement rather than purely theoretical advocacy.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of GRO2BE is to promote environmental awareness and ecological responsibility within local communities, with a strong emphasis on youth engagement and active citizenship. The organization seeks to address the growing disconnection between people—particularly younger generations—and the natural environment, by fostering direct contact with nature, land cultivation, and sustainable living practices. GRO2BE aims to mobilize citizens toward collective environmental action, encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly daily habits, and strengthen social responsibility regarding climate change, biodiversity protection, and sustainable resource management. Through non-formal education, experiential learning, and community-based initiatives, the organization aspires to contribute to long-term behavioral change rather than short-term environmental interventions, positioning environmental protection as a shared social responsibility embedded in everyday life.
Main Projects / Activities
GRO2BE implements a broad range of environmental, educational, and community-oriented activities that combine theory with hands-on practice. Central to its work are educational programs focused on urban and organic agriculture, such as the “Gardens of Komotini,” through which children, young people, and adults participate in learning activities related to soil, seasonal cultivation, traditional seeds, and sustainable food systems within municipal organic vegetable gardens. The organization is also actively involved in the management and revitalization of these gardens, transforming them into inclusive spaces for cultivation, learning, and social interaction. In parallel, GRO2BE organizes public awareness events and open discussions on climate change and its local impacts, often in collaboration with scientific experts, municipalities, and civil society actors, aiming to inform citizens and stimulate public dialogue. Additionally, the organization regularly conducts environmental clean-up campaigns in urban areas, forests, and coastal zones, not as isolated actions but as tools for awareness raising and community mobilization. Cultural initiatives, eco-festivals, workshops, and communication actions further complement its activities, reinforcing the integration of environmental education, volunteerism, and community engagement in a coherent and sustainable manner.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
GRO2BE can contribute to the Anna Lindh Foundation Network in Greece by acting as a locally rooted but outward-looking organization that connects environmental action with intercultural dialogue, youth participation, and active citizenship. Drawing on its experience in community-based initiatives, GRO2BE can support the Network by mobilising young people and local communities around shared Mediterranean challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, food security, and social cohesion, framing these issues as common grounds for dialogue and cooperation across cultures.
Through its established collaborations with schools, municipalities, youth centres, civil society organisations, and European programmes, GRO2BE can function as a bridge between grassroots actors and the wider Anna Lindh Foundation Network, facilitating the dissemination of Network values at the local level while also channelling local perspectives and practices to national and regional partners. The organisation can actively contribute to joint actions, campaigns, and thematic working groups by offering practical expertise in non-formal education, experiential learning, and community engagement, particularly in relation to environmental awareness and youth empowerment.
Furthermore, GRO2BE can contribute to strengthening the Network’s visibility and impact in Greece by hosting intercultural events, public discussions, and participatory activities that bring together young people, educators, volunteers, and diverse social groups, fostering mutual understanding, inclusion, and democratic participation. By integrating environmental sustainability with intercultural dialogue, GRO2BE can enrich the Network with innovative, action-oriented approaches that translate shared values into tangible local practices, while remaining aligned with the broader objectives of peace, dialogue, and cooperation promoted by the Anna Lindh Foundation.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
GRO2BE seeks to join the Anna Lindh Foundation Network because it shares a strong alignment with the Foundation’s core values of intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, and active citizenship, which are increasingly essential in contemporary Mediterranean societies. The organization recognizes that environmental challenges, climate change, and sustainable development are not only ecological or technical issues, but also social and cultural ones that require dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding across communities, generations, and cultural backgrounds.
By joining the ALF Network, GRO2BE aims to strengthen the intercultural dimension of its work, enriching its local environmental actions with broader Mediterranean perspectives and good practices.
