Haiffo (Haifa Filmmakers' Forum) is a grassroots non-profit organization established in 2023 to develop and establish a sustainable film and television industry in the Haifa district, Israel. Despite being the third-largest city in the country with a rich, diverse population (including Jews, Arabs, and immigrants), Haifa has historically lacked a local film fund or industry infrastructure. Operating entirely on a volunteer basis, Haiffo serves as an umbrella organization that maps, unites, and promotes local creative professionals. Our goal is to prevent the migration of talent to the center of the country and transform the cultural periphery into a vibrant center of independent cinematic creation.
Mission and Objectives
Our main objectives include:
Building and empowering a local and diverse community of film and TV professionals
Halting the "brain drain" of creators to the center of the country by generating local employment and production opportunities.
Giving a voice and screen representation to the diverse, multicultural narratives of the Haifa district, thereby promoting social justice, gender equality, and cultural diversity.
Main Projects / Activities
"The Haifa Scene" Incubator: Our flagship project where we mentored and produced 8 short films shot entirely in Haifa using exclusively local crews and locations. These films successfully premiered at the Haifa International Film Festival.
“Pitch on the Carmal”: a Pitching competition for Haifa based filmmakers, entering its 2nd year
Professional Mapping: We created the first verified professional directory of over 150 local filmmakers and technical crew members, encouraging incoming productions to hire locally.
Community & Networking Events: Organizing workshops, screenings and networking events to consolidate the local creative scene.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We can contribute to the ALF Network by offering a platform for intercultural dialogue through cinema, bringing together Jewish, Arab, and immigrant creators. We can host joint screenings, facilitate co-productions of intercultural media projects, and share our model of creating a cultural scene from the ground up.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Joining the Anna Lindh Foundation Network aligns with our vision of utilizing cinema as a bridge for intercultural dialogue. As a grassroots organization situated in a Mediterranean port city, we want to join the network to find international partners for co-productions, learn from other organizations and find partners and resources. Membership would provide us with opportunities needed to strengthen our local mission.
