The Hariri Foundation, presided by H.E. Bahia Hariri, has ever since expanded its scope of work, shifting towards a more diversified portfolio of interventions aimed at national state-building and sustainable human development. Over the course of more than four decades, the foundation has advanced its approach and developed its programs and services to address national and global transformations. It has become a lead advocate of sustainable human development, expanding its developmental role to mainstream best practices of sustainability and resilience across future generations. Well into its fifth decade, HF has effectively localized ever-transforming global frameworks and scientific modalities to address the needs and potentials of Lebanese sectoral societies and local communities. The foundation has implemented more than 200 projects and activated more than 30 dedicated development centers across Lebanon. The foundation has collaborated with hundreds of international and local organizations and networks for the achievement of Agenda 21, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN Plan of Action for Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), as well as other global and national integrated and sectoral plans.
Mission and Objectives
To innovate and mainstream action for promoting responsible citizenship, urban well-being, and good governance across Lebanon through partnership, development, education, and support.
Achieving sustainable human development congruent with strengthening citizen engagement, social cohesion, and community resilience across Lebanon.
Main Projects / Activities
The Hariri Foundation implements a diverse portfolio of projects across five core areas: Social Protection, offering cash assistance, community services, and crisis response through its outreach center and local hubs; Economic Empowerment, supporting MSMEs, youth-led enterprises, and entrepreneurship through incubators and training programs; Women’s Inclusion & Handicrafts, advancing income generation for women via the Anamilouna program and community kitchen; Sustainable Tourism & Culture, revitalizing Saida’s historic district through events, training, and heritage site management; and Agro-Food Development, promoting climate-smart agriculture, cooperative support, and rural livelihoods in partnership with international donors. Together, these initiatives reinforce resilience, equity, and inclusive growth across Lebanon.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
The Hariri Foundation can contribute significantly to the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Network in Lebanon by serving as a convening platform for intercultural dialogue, youth engagement, and civic exchange, leveraging its institutional spaces and partnerships across Lebanon and the Mediterranean. With its long-standing experience in socio-economic development, youth empowerment, cultural heritage, and community resilience, the Foundation can lead initiatives that bridge cultural preservation with economic inclusion—such as promoting heritage-based entrepreneurship, youth-led tourism, and women's handicraft networks. It can also support research, policy dialogue, and impact learning across the network by sharing best practices, data, and local insights. Furthermore, the Foundation could play a coordinating role within the ALF Network, offering capacity-building support to smaller CSOs and fostering collaborative, cross-cultural projects that strengthen dialogue and social cohesion across Lebanon and the region.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
The Hariri Foundation seeks to join the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Network to expand its impact through regional collaboration, intercultural dialogue, and shared learning across the Euro-Mediterranean region. By joining the network, the Foundation aims to contribute its experience in empowering youth, promoting inclusive economic development, and preserving cultural heritage, while building new partnerships that foster peace, diversity, and civic engagement. This affiliation will also enable the Foundation to amplify its initiatives, engage in joint programming, and strengthen its role as a connector between local communities in Lebanon and broader Mediterranean efforts toward social cohesion and sustainable development.
