General Information

Our aim is to raise public and institutional awareness of the essential contributions made by rural women farmers and craftswomen, particularly those involved in agrotourism and rural tourism, while denouncing the discrimination and difficulties they face. The agricultural sector, marked by sexist traditions and isolation, is under-invested. Through rural tourism, these women are combating this discrimination and contributing to the sustainable development of their villages and the preservation of their rural heritage. However, this should not be their only recourse. Strengthening their independence and visibility is essential to promote gender equality and sustainable rural development.

Mission and Objectives

Our 3 main objectives:
- PROTECT: By creating common funds and promoting the exchange of best practices
- PROMOTE: by producing reports and representing them in political bodies
- SHARE: By highlighting their actions to preserve our heritage, gain
equality, acting for sustainable development, participating in the agricultural and ecological transition in rural areas through reports and publications

Main Projects / Activities

As a young organization, here are our main projects but some remains objectifs and are not yet in process, due to logistical and financial conditions. We hope to bring these actions to life over the next years. The production and publication of documentaries, programs for our She Farms podcast channel, thematic articles (those three types of content are already being realized), the creation of participatory events (in process), the setting up of a women's community with exchanges of best practices and access to multiple resources (in process), the conduct of statistical and qualitative research on rural women farmers and craftswomenin the Mediterranean (for the next years). Globally raising public awareness and lobbying institutions.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Our association is based in France (Marseille) but still aim to act all over the mediterranean countries. We hope to bring more awareness on the topic of women in rural areas, especially women farmers and craftswomen engaging in rural tourism, and how this touristics initiatives are impacting positively our societies. We would like to share as much informations as possible and be an active member in bringing to life meeting in France of the ALF Network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

In our desire to carry out our work throughout the basin, we believe that this network represents an opportunity to exchange best practices and gain access to more information on rural women in other countries. We also believe in the intersectionality of causes, and that learning more about the involvement of various stakeholders would be an opportunity to develop our research and understanding of the social, economic and cultural dynamics at play in our societies.
