Human Development Research Initiative (HDRI) is a non-profit civil society organisation based in France, dedicated to advancing inclusive, just, and resilient societies through research, policy engagement, and community-based action. HDRI works at the intersection of human rights, youth empowerment, intercultural dialogue, and social inclusion, with a strong focus on evidence-based approaches and participatory methodologies.
The organisation conducts research, capacity-building activities, and advocacy initiatives addressing key societal challenges such as discrimination, migration, democratic participation, gender equality, and the inclusion of marginalised communities, including LGBTQIA+ youth. HDRI collaborates with civil society organisations, academic institutions, and international networks at national, European, and international levels.
Through its work, HDRI aims to strengthen civil society capacities, promote dialogue across cultures and communities, and contribute to policy processes that uphold human rights, diversity, and shared values in the Euro-Mediterranean and European contexts.

Mission
The mission of Human Development Research Initiative (HDRI) is to promote inclusive, rights-based, and participatory societies by advancing human rights, intercultural dialogue, and youth engagement through research, policy-oriented action, and civil society cooperation at national, European, and Euro-Mediterranean levels.
Objectives
- To strengthen intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding among diverse communities, with a particular focus on youth and marginalised groups.
- To produce and disseminate evidence-based research that informs public policy and supports social cohesion, equality, and democratic participation.
- To build the capacities of civil society organisations and young leaders through training, knowledge exchange, and collaborative initiatives.
- To advocate for human rights, non-discrimination, and gender equality, including the protection and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ communities.
- To foster cross-border and cross-sector partnerships that contribute to peace, justice, and sustainable development in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Main Projects / Activities
Human Development Research Initiative (HDRI) implements research-driven and action-oriented projects focused on human rights, intercultural dialogue, and youth empowerment. The organisation develops and coordinates policy-oriented research addressing discrimination, social inclusion, migration, democratic participation, and gender equality, with particular attention to marginalised groups, including LGBTQIA+ youth.
HDRI designs and delivers capacity-building programmes for youth organisations and civil society actors, strengthening competencies in advocacy, project management, participatory research, and inclusive practices. The organisation actively engages in dialogue processes, consultations, and policy debates at national and European levels, contributing civil society perspectives to institutional frameworks.
In addition, HDRI collaborates within European and Euro-Mediterranean networks to implement cross-border initiatives, mobility and exchange activities, and knowledge-sharing platforms that promote mutual understanding, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence across cultures and communities.
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
Human Development Research Initiative (HDRI) can actively contribute to the national network by sharing evidence-based research, good practices, and policy insights related to intercultural dialogue, human rights, and youth participation. HDRI can support the Network through the organisation of thematic dialogues, workshops, and capacity-building activities that bring together civil society actors, youth organisations, researchers, and local stakeholders.
HDRI can facilitate inclusive participation by amplifying the voices of marginalised communities, particularly young people and under-represented groups, and by promoting non-discrimination and gender equality within network activities. The organisation can also contribute to joint initiatives, consultations, and advocacy efforts at national and Euro-Mediterranean levels, strengthening cooperation among members.
Through its expertise in research, participatory methodologies, and cross-sector collaboration, HDRI can help enhance the visibility, impact, and sustainability of the Network’s actions in France while supporting its shared mission of dialogue, mutual understanding, and social cohesion.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
Human Development Research Initiative (HDRI) seeks to join the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Network to strengthen its engagement in intercultural dialogue and contribute to the shared mission of fostering inclusive, peaceful, and cohesive societies across the Euro-Mediterranean region. Membership in the ALF Network would allow HDRI to connect with a diverse community of civil society organisations, exchange knowledge and best practices, and participate in collaborative initiatives that promote youth empowerment, human rights, and social inclusion.
Joining the ALF Network also offers HDRI the opportunity to contribute its expertise in evidence-based research, capacity-building, and participatory approaches, enhancing the impact of network activities in France.
