Mission and Objectives

The Ilhan Koman Foundation was created in Istanbul in 1999 by friends & relatives of Turkish-Swedish artist Ilhan Koman (1921-1986). It works on 3 main themes, besides of promoting Ilhan Koman's artistic and scientific heritage: -As it is managing this artist's collection, of which an important part is embodied in monumental artworks permanently erected in streets of Stockholm, Istanbul and Ankara, the Koman Foundation works on promoting ‘art in public space' -As another specificity of this collection comes from the scientific properties of most of the artworks, the Koman Foundation participates actions enhancing links between 'arts and sciences' -Finally, as Ilhan Koman shared his life among several countries (Turkey, Belgium, France and Sweden) his foundation aims to promote exchanges among these 4 countries, as well as wider international cooperation In summary, the Koman Foundation mostly participates in socio-cultural actions related to sculpture and to a more democratic access to arts, cultures and technology.
