General Information

The Institute of International Relations (IDIS) is affiliated with the Department of
International and European Studies at Panteion University of Social and Political
Sciences and constitutes Greece’s leading university research institute in international
affairs.
It was founded in 1989 with the vision to create a forum where students, researchers,
academics, diplomats, civil society representatives, and practitioners of international
affairs to engage in a meaningful free exchange of ideas.
30+ years after its establishment, IDIS maintains a vibrant research culture while
remaining also committed to its educational mission. Moreover, and despite the
proliferation of other institutes with similar activities in Greece, IDIS remains not just the
first but also the only University Research Institute in the country in the field of
International Relations with organic connection to a University’s undergraduate and
graduate programs.
The administration of the Institute consists of a five-member board of directors composed
of professors from the Department of International, European and Area Studies, ,with an
additional executive director, a Director of Programs, and two administrative assistants.
The Institute is funded by the public and private sectors through a non-profit organisation
status.
