General Information

Cultural Echoеs is non-governmental and independent organization based in Skopje, North Macedonia. The association is formed by group of five young enthusiasts in 2018. With a background ranging from architecture to computer science and several of the arts, our mission is to promote urban responsibility.
Our main project is „Abandoned opportunities“, detailed research on abandoned buildings that pose a potential threat to safety and general health for humans, animals and the environment; their restoration or conversion and reuse for the common good. Тhe primary goal of this project is to develop an application - interactive map that records the current state of targeted buildings through visual display/documentation.
In our association, we do not have employees, we all work as freelancers. Depending on the size of a given project we are working on, more members of the association are engaged. Currently there are 3 active members and 2 volunteers.

Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to promote sustainable urban and cultural development through innovative approaches and methods for environmental conservation and improvement of quality of life. Promoting corporate, social, urban and ecological responsibility through rediscovery and redefinition of common issues and problems and their resolution with new strategies and methods. We strongly focus on cultural development, promoting the need for culture and art as opportunities for individual development. Through our ability for commitment to change and continuous development, we encourage cooperation between local government and the non-governmental sector, acting as a bridge between these two sectors and a catalyst in taking concrete steps and actions.
In 2026, Cultural Echoes will strive to conceptualize its projects with activities whose main focus will be young people, such as: workshops and trainings, creative and cultural/art activities, volunteer and socially engaged activities, etc. All projects will address topics in the field of environment, urban planning, youth, culture and arts. The focus audience and collaborators of our projects and events are young people, artists of all categories, activists, members of other citizen associations, and the general population of the city of Skopje.

Main Projects / Activities

The organization successfully implements projects and activities of various nature, including:
-Submits a civil initiative to the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia for reuse, revitalization and conversion of the abandoned factory "Kuprum" into a student city. Over the years that followed, we signed a memorandum of cooperation with the municipality, realized a multimedia story, produced a printed publication, an exhibition and conference.
-Cultural Echo donates a conceptual design to the Municipality of Karpos for revitalization of the abandoned sports hall "Naum Naumovski - Borce". On this project we worked with two international architects from Barcelona, Tomas Romero and Mateus Sartori, who developed a conceptual design solution. The project culminated in the renovation of the hall, which was reopened in 2025. We have made official request to the local government, so they allocate an office for civic organizations within the new facility. https://culturalechoes.home.blog/2019/05/27/architectural-concept-solutions-presented-to-karposh-municipality-in-skopje/
We are currently working within the framework of the project "Green and Cultural Spaces: Advocacy for Revitalization", supported by the Swiss Embassy through the "Hartefact" fund, with the aim of mapping and identifying abandoned buildings of national interest, as well as considering the possibilities for their revitalization and re-activation in the interest of the independent cultural scene and the community.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Cultural Echoes can contribute to the ALF Network in North Macedonia by engaging young people in intercultural dialogue through urban and cultural initiatives, using abandoned spaces as platforms for shared heritage and social cohesion, strengthening cooperation between civil society and local institutions, and promoting arts, culture, and environmental responsibility as tools for active citizenship.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We believe that the values and mission of the Anna Lindh Foundation strongly align with our own commitment to intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity, youth participation, and active citizenship. Joining the ALF Network would provide an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and the development of joint initiatives that strengthen social cohesion and democratic participation in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
We would be honored to contribute our experience, creativity, and local perspective to the Anna Lindh Foundation Network and to collaborate with like-minded organizations in pursuit of shared goals.
