General Information

Jazz Solidarity Network (JSN) is a cultural non-profit organisation based in Athens, Greece, founded in March 2023. JSN aims to support and promote the work of Greek artists who are engaged with jazz and improvisation. Through a strong interdisciplinary approach, it builds collaborations among artists from different artistic disciplines and develops connections with both public and private stakeholders in Greece and abroad.

The network strives to foster solidarity and independence in cultural production while encouraging “out-of-the-box” initiatives that expand artistic opportunities and visibility. A core goal of JSN is to create international partnerships and provide platforms for cross-border exchanges, allowing the Greek jazz scene to engage more fully with global audiences.

Mission and Objectives

JSN’s mission is to:
•Promote the work of Greek jazz and improvisation artists through collective, independent, and solidarity-based models
•Encourage interdisciplinary synergies among artists and cultural stakeholders
•Create new opportunities for artistic production, mobility, and visibility, both in Greece and internationally
•Address contemporary social and cultural issues through participatory art and co-creation
•Support innovation and sustainability in the cultural sector through practical tools and platforms for artists

Main Projects / Activities

Since its establishment, JSN has developed and implemented a broad set of activities:
•Engagement of 280+ Greek artists as network members
•Organisation of 4 single-day jazz festivals, one of which was funded by the City of Athens, and numerous smaller live events
•Co-organisation of 4 Outta Climate Festivals in schools, funded by the Ministry of Environment and Energy
•Organisation of a conference on “Sustainability in the Cultural Sector”, also funded by the Ministry of Environment and Energy
•Financial support for 5 music album productions by member artists
•Creation of The Greek Jazz Book, a digital platform with over 100 lead sheets of Greek jazz compositions, funded by the Ministry of Culture
•Development of crowdfunding and e-shop platforms for network members
•Active participation in third-party events such as Jazzahead, including booths, performances, and talks
•International collaboration with Assejazz (Spain) under the LIVEMX EU-funded project, through which 4 Greek bands were sent to perform in Seville

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

JSN can contribute to the Anna Lindh Foundation Network in Greece by bringing forward a cultural model that combines music, improvisation, and solidarity with social engagement and intercultural dialogue. We offer:
•Experience in creating participatory and socially engaged cultural events
•A strong focus on youth, underrepresented voices, and emerging artists
•Infrastructure and tools for artist mobility, and creative exchange
•Programming that explores themes of climate action, and inclusion, using music and co-creation as tools for dialogue
•A growing network of grassroots and professional stakeholders committed to cultural and civic collaboration

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We are enthusiastic about joining the Anna Lindh Foundation Network to collaborate with cultural and civil society organisations across the Euro-Mediterranean region. JSN believes that jazz, improvisation, and artistic co-creation are powerful tools for connecting people, fostering empathy, and addressing shared challenges.
By joining the ALF Network, we aim to:
•Build long-term partnerships for intercultural dialogue and socially engaged arts
•Co-develop interdisciplinary projects that link cultural expression with issues of sustainability, democracy, and coexistence
•Learn from other members and bring Greek jazz voices into broader Mediterranean and European conversations
•Contribute to a shared vision of peace, inclusion, and cultural collaboration through innovative grassroots initiatives
