Karama foundation is the third UNESCO accredited non profit in Egypt under the 2003 convention of intangible cultural heritage

Mission and Objectives

✅ Preserve and protect at‑risk elements of intangible heritage through targeted initiatives.
✅ Promote and enhance the visibility and value of local traditions and handicrafts.
✅ Transmit cultural knowledge and skills via formal and informal educational activities.
✅ Revitalize traditional practices so they remain living parts of community life.
✅ Build economic and social capacity for artisans to secure sustainable livelihoods connected to heritage.
✅ Raise awareness of the economic, historical, social, and cultural importance of Egypt’s intangible cultural heritage

Karama’s overarching vision is to safeguard, revitalize, and develop Egypt’s intangible/ living cultural heritage , with particular emphasis on traditional crafts ,while integrating social and economic development for the communities that carry this heritage.

Main Projects / Activities

- Product Innovation in Traditional Embroidery” in cooperation with Istabl Antar Dream Foundation, Egyptian clothing bank, GebRaa, ExxonMobil Egypt -2024-2026
-Carving & piercing” and model making for youth with intellectual disability, United Nation Women Guild -2023 in collaboration with The National foundation for family and community development (NFFCD)
-Reviving of the inlay craft in Egypt (2019-2021), Drossos foundation with ministry of education and vocational education, mazalah foundation, Istabl antar dreams foundation and The National foundation for family and community development (NFFCD)

collaborating with other members in different projects, exchanging services, hosting events at our office, sharing experiences and best practices

We like the Egyptian members of the network and we can see ways of potential future collaboration. we also think the ALF Network can help us expand our work around the Mediterranean and help create bridges of dialogue and cultural diversity celebration and awareness opportunities
