General Information

Our NGO organisation KISAM Mothers and Youth in the World meets on a daily basis, people from around the world, especially mothers, children and youth, who have come to Sweden as asylum seekers and as immigrants.

We started our NGO 2016 as an art project and we have grown to a movement for change. Due to the changes in society, our organisation has as well changed to more work with issues of democracy, equality and human right.

We work in 4 segregated areas in the region of Östergötland (East Sweden), where most families have come from other regions of the world. We have established our own method, KISAM-method in which we work with arts as a tool for learning and ways of telling your story, empowerment and experience based learning.

We work specially with mothers since they have a key role in the children's future. We give children and youth “tools for live”in order for them to become their very best and not to choose the criminal path.

We educate youth as leaders and as well employ youth leaders in our NGO as positive role models for many.

We work with giving mothers and youth the tools to be a voice in the Swedish society and bring forward important issues and knowledge to politicians of the situation of migrants, of structural hindrances as well suggestions for change.

We are the voice of people who otherwise are seldom being heard.

Our activities are in 4 segregated areas where people with mainly immigrant background live, there is poverty (where 80% of the families with children live under “relative poverty”), high unemployment, 1 out of 3 youth finish their primary school and there is aggressive recruiting of children to criminal gangs.

Mission and Objectives

In our important work, we lift the voices to the highest political level, sharing information to advance the rights of asylum seekers and immigrants. Making their case to speak loudly. We give tools so that they themselves can bring forward their important knowledge and experiences, empowerment and give people hope

Our mission is to counteract solitude and include women and children and youth in actively participating in community and society.

We create arenas that allow people from different backgrounds, religions, positions and knowledge to meet in order to bridge over prejudices and work for solutions on prioritized issues in society.

Main Projects / Activities

We offer mothers, children and youth a meaningful free time within the arts, learning and play, in a safe place in the area where they live.

We organise meeting points for youth leaderships programs in our KISAM-method and for different youth and women organization in order to share experiences.

We arrange different educational journeys in Sweden and participate with mothers and youth as speakers in all major democratic events in Sweden.

We arrange our yearly festival “Skäggetorpsfestivalen” together with mothers and youth, a day filled with culture, performances and meetings with both politicians as businesses. We create connections and work for democracy in a form of a festival.

We make different pilot projects on issues that are important for our members, in order to find solutions ex. integration for migrant women, for increasing the understanding of political leader of the situation of migrant mothers/families, safety in the living area, research projects together with the main research institutions in Sweden.

We are a reference group for the committee on education in the Swedish Parliament.
