Koullou|Makka is a Cyprus-based artistic collective founded in 2022 in Limassol by theatre director and educator Elena Sokratous, inclusive dance educator Eleftheria Sokratous, and actress-performer and theatre educator Nayia T. Karakosta. Our name comes from two Arabic words — kullu (all) and ma ba’d (together) — reflecting our core values of inclusivity and collective action.
We are a group of disabled and non-disabled artists with approximately 10 active members, working together to rethink performance, embodiment, and social interaction. We collaborate across disciplines to explore how bodies exist and resist within social constructs like gender, time, disability, and public versus private space.
Mission and Objectives
Our mission is to create inclusive, interdisciplinary artistic work that challenges normative boundaries and opens up new possibilities for how we experience art and each other. At the heart of our practice is a commitment to poetic activism and collective authorship. We engage with crip aesthetics to question dominant narratives around the body and ability, while centering creative accessibility and an ethics of care in everything we do.
We are deeply inspired by the concept of crip time, embracing flexible, non-linear experiences of time and process. Our works, whether performances or workshops are often structured as relaxed environments, offering audiences — disabled or not — the freedom to move, rest, observe, or participate on their own terms. Public space is a central site of exploration for us, a space where we reimagine participation, accessibility, and connection through experimental artistic interventions.
Main Projects / Activities
We are the only active interdisciplinary artistic collective in Cyprus composed of members with and without disabilities, meeting on a weekly basis to produce artistic work. Our practice is developed through our daily experiences and through improvisational processes that draw tools from creative writing, dance, and theatre.
Since 2022, we have produced a range of projects including workshops, performative outdoor interventions, and live performances. Across all our activities, we consistently explore questions of creative accessibility, both in our working processes and in how the work is shared with audiences. How can you contribute to the Network in your country?
We aim to contribute to the Network in our country by actively collaborating on advocacy initiatives that support a more inclusive and diverse arts field. We are committed to sharing the tools, methodologies, and practices we have developed within our collective with local artists and practitioners.
In addition, we seek to strengthen and expand the local Network by reaching out to new communities, building partnerships, and fostering connections between artists, organizations, and initiatives working across accessibility, inclusion and community building in the arts.
Why do you want to join the ALF Network?
We want to join the ALF Network in order to exchange practices and reach out opportunities to connect with lightminded organizations and other artist that works collectively. We are interested in share our work and vision internationally and find ways to connect with the expanded artistic community. Joining the Network is important for us as a way to increase the visibility of our work and our values. As an independent collective of artists without a legal entity, we hope this will not be a factor of exclusion from the Network. However, if required, we are also able to participate under the umbrella of Ypogeia Skini Association/ Synergeio Theatre, based in Limassol, with whom we collaborate closely and frequently co-produce our work.
